Now, if we had more efficient rehearsals, then perhaps we could squeeze in the cymbal birthdays at 5:43 or so. Dr. Hayward is fairly obliging on the occasions when we have focused, efficient practices. Honestly, I can see why she won't allow us to do the fun stuff during rehearsal time if we can't even finish the tasks planned for each rehearsal. Now, I'm not pointing any fingers, and I know that there are several contributing factors that affect the rehearsal pace. But we band members do have control over some of those factors, especially those of us in leadership positions. If we could make efficiency more of a standard than an occasional pleasant surprise, then I think we could negotiate some of these traditions- Quigleys, cymbal birthdays, etc.- back into rehearsal time.FliccGirl wrote:As for cymbal birthdays, that does make me kinda sad, although I understand the reasoning behind wanting to wait until AFTER practice is over. Every minute counts, etc etc.
And remember that, though you may not be a fan of the faculty, leadership, and/or rehearsal methods, you should still treat all of those people and practices with respect. People are much more willing and open to listen to suggestions or requests when you behave in a respectful manner.
Speaking of during-rehearsal traditions, now that my big brother is no longer marching, who will be the perc who runs after "I'm A Little Teapot" on game days?
