Just think, with all the publicity the program is getting people may even learn that our fight song is actually "Forward Falcons!" Won't that be a great day?

Good point Matt...one I think most people just didn't read in my post. I guess ay-zig is our secondary fight song, but it shouldn't be the one we are known for (coming from an ex-band member of course).Metz wrote:Once again though, people think Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba is our fight song...

I am a MUCH bigger fan of Forward Falcons than of Ay Zig. You just can't beat that sax in the background (the "dying giraffe," as it were). That is my favorite fight song of all-time, and always will be. I only wish we had some more traditions associated with that song (like when the band plays it, people actually sing it...).Metz wrote:Good point Matt...one I think most people just didn't read in my post. Still, Ay Zig is so unique that I can somewhat understand people's fascination with it.

Forward Falcons may be our "official" fight song, but I think a lot more people, alums included, identify with Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba more. Personally, I much prefer Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba, but I'm not a band person either. I learned the words to AZZ on my orientation trip before Freshman year, and have loved it ever sense.
Forward Falcons is a good song, but I prefer AZZ. I wish the NCAA game would add AZZ to the soundtrack...

After listening to this song i was thinking, do you think if our band did something like we could get more people to sing along? esp for ay-zig.. they played it, then sang it and played again, maybe if the band as a whole would sing it more people in the stands would sing too? just a thoughtBleeding Orange wrote:I've got to put a word in here for "Bear Down, Arizona!" Its no Ay Zig, for sure, but it is still a really cool fight song. You can here it here:

Plus, its much, MUCH better than that jumbled piece-of crap fight song from up I-10. 8) God I love rivalries...
Go Falcons!

I like that idea as well. That may be the only way the students learn the song. I have been to several freshman convocations and I don't remember a single one where the words of the fight song are mentioned. They cover Aye Zig and the Alma Mater but not Foreward Falcons. That is such a shame. I bet there are even some in marching band now that don't know the words to the fight song. We used to sing the words to Aye Zig when time outs expired and we were not done playing. It was automatic to finish the song by singing. I have seen that done recently and am glad it has been retained. STOP THE WHIPPELING!!!

AZZ works much better for a "crowd participation", I think, especially with the "BGSU" at the end giving a definitive chance to shout a "catch phrase" (this case being the school's name).
Forward Falcons just kind of trails off at the end. The words should be known, but as an energetic, crowd-involving tune, I think AZZ wins hands down.

That's 'cause the uniform committee makes you sing it to them before they'll give you your uniform.Metz wrote:I dunno about that...everyone seems to have it down in band! It's the Journey... wrote:I bet there are even some in marching band now that don't know the words to the fight song.
I've wanted to get the words to the Alma Mater put on the jumbotron... didn't realize many people don't know the words to FF as well. Hmmm!
