Another fine Toledo fan

Post by TG1996 »

A friend of my dad's was at the Jamie Farr tourney last week, and as was mentioned on here, BGSU was a sponsor of the event, or at least did enough to get a space on the pairings sheet handed out to fans. A guy he knew, a big UT fan, was working as a marshal at the event and asked for his pairing sheet, pointed to the BG ad space, said something like "this shouldn't happen in Toledo" and tore the ad off. Supposedly he did that to a number of other sheets, mostly of people he knew, but not necessarily all that well.

Trivial, I know, but what a nice show of class, eh?

what do you expect from a rockette fan? especially at a golf tournament. thats supposed to be a classy kind of event. do that at a football game, it had nothing to do with the golf tournament.

I'll second that, tekekini. So... undiplomatic, so... crass, so... tasteless. Or, to catch the SMS spirit of a younger generation... so "minging".

Maybe I'll graduate from "egg" before the end of next season. Wish I could contribute with the exemplary reverential insight of the AZZ Gods (you know who you are) in so doing. Nothing wrong with wishing.

Was he laughing when doing this? Perhaps he was just having a tongue-in-cheek moment.

If he were sincere with his actions; however, I find it intriguing that he would have that attituded. BGSU's sponsorship of the event only helps the city of Toledo.

Take a look at this year's charities:

Adopt America
The Central City Ministries of Toledo
Family HOuse
Feed Lucas County Children, Inc
Sylvania Family Services
Ronald McDonald House

I know of quite a few Rocket fans who would think this humorous, but I would be disappointed if they supported his actions (if his actions were sincere).

There are moment when you must hold yourself above the rivalry. This was one of those times, I believe.

Their ad dollars are probably going elsewhere.

There are aother ways to give to the community outside of sponsoring sporting events.

UT likely spends a HUGE chunk of change on the ad on the front of the SBC yellow pages. Yellow pages advertising is quite expensive, and I shudder to think what it costs to have a prominent place on the book's cover.

Or the REALLY awful Brucie G. & Tom Amstutz bobble head commercial.

Even if I were a UT fan, I think that commercial would make me sick.

Just remember there ARE cool UT fans....seriously. TJRocket is very cool and so is Mitch's (MajorFalcon92) brother.

This other guy sounds like a weiner.  And what a childish thing to do.

Are you sure there wasn't something valuable like a coupon for Depends printed on the other side of our ad?

You know, I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll have to ask about it again. Perhaps there were some food stamps on the ad, and the guy was hungry.

I was simply an add to sell season tickets! I was there three days and it was on all of the pairing sheets. My first response was "not the number of tickets it would sell, but how much it would "PO" the UT fans at the tournament"!!!!!! I guess I was right, and was VERY happy to see the advertisement in the pairing sheet. It difinitely got your attention, and probably $$$$$ cost effective.

BG and Toledo seem to have the biggest rivalry in the MAC. I can't understand why the MAC moved BG to the other division instead of another school. BG/Toledo playing every year would be a great game to see.

The thinking is we will play every year anyway, and for the MAC rather than just the division championship!!!!!!!! :duh:
