At the professional level, the NFL will not allow its coaches to wear coat and ties due to the leagues apparel contracts.

Ditto.

He was short, you could sure pick him off of the sideline.......usually yelling at the Defense.
I really liked Blackney as a coach and as a man. It's a shame he fell on hard times here.

He wasn't the greatest man, but this isn't the place to air his personal flaws.

I don't think that was anything personal. I think it was simply a reference to the freefall of the late 90's. Sure, he probably had a hand in that from the recruiting side, but what he did with those teams in the first part of his time at BG was outstanding!

i think that what O4 is referring to involves gary's personal, not professional life. i have no opinion on the matters, but some are not fond of his personal conduct (again, not at all involving bgsu or the team, or football at all) toward the end of his time here.

There are also some people who would criticize Michael Schaivo for dating.

I think it's tough to judge a man if you haven't walked in his shoes.

We all have our personal flaws. Severity is a matter of opinion.

Blackney was a good coach and worked hard to develop a good relationship with the BG community.
His personal issues were none of my affair. I am familiar with some of his personal life, but that is only what he allowed people to know. Anything else is none of my business and does not effect my admiration for the man.

Yup... it looks professional. A touch of class never hurt anyone. Classy like the U you represent.(BG in this case!)

Florida traded a (Larry) Fedora for Urban Meyer, Dan Mullen and the BG offense!

Well said, SF. I like Gary Blackney to this day, regardless of what happened in the last 6 years of his tenure.
He is a quality coach and I wish him and his family the best. He won our last 2 MAC titles...and was 36-8-2 his first four years.
His 1994 team, IMO, may be the best BG team of all time. The Falcons just steamrolled teams that year and only lost to NC State on the road, 20-15, and CMU, 36-33. That team could P L A Y.

I liked the suit and tie as well. For Blackney, it seemed to fit.
