My quest to see every D-I football stadium

Post by BGSU33 »

One of my many hobbies is to visit every Division I football stadium across the country. This past weekend, I was in Annapolis, Maryland (a very beautiful historic place) and saw Navy's stadium while I was there. They've done a lot of recent renovations and the stadium is very nice. Out of the current 119 D-I football stadiums, I've been to 35 of them. Below is a list in alphabetical order of the stadiums I have visited. I will be adding Wisconsin, Northern Illinois and Northwestern to the list for the BG/Wisky trip, and Ball State the following weekend. I was curious how many stadiums some of you visited?

1. Akron
2. Arizona State
3. Bowling Green
4. Central Michigan
5. Clemson
6. Duke
7. Eastern Michigan
8. Florida State
9. Georgia Tech
10. Kent State
11. Kentucky
12. LSU
13. Marshall
14. Maryland
15. Miami (Ohio)
16. Michigan
17. Michigan State
18. Navy
19. North Carolina
20. N.C. State
21. Notre Dame
22. Ohio
23. Ohio State
24. Oregon
25. Oregon State
26. Penn State
27. Pittsburgh
28. Tennessee
29. Texas
30. Toledo
31. Vanderbilt
32. Virginia
33. Virginia Tech
34. Wake Forest
35. West Virginia

I have only been to the teams we play on the road, plus the Big House. I'd love to see more but that takes time and money which most college students don't have!

I've been to a lot less than you. But I admire you for trying!!!

I heard another interesting fact the other day y'all would appreciate. It was in Dave Campbell's Texas Football. It said there were 119 D-1 football programs in the U.S. Each has about 25 scholarship offers to make each year. In the State of Texas alone, there are about 11,000 high school seniors playing football. My husband got extreme satisfaction out of hearing those figures, since he was one of the lucky few to get one. Now isn't he special (at least he will remind you he is). 8)

33,
Got to think back on this...doubtful that I've been to 35, but I'll try to list in no particular order: (Fun idea, incidentally)

A. MAC schools
1.EMU
2WMU
3.CMU
4.TU
5.BG (obviosly)
6.Miami
7.OU
8.Kent
9.Akron

NO= NIU,Buffalo,Ball St.

B.Others
1.Purdue(twice-Both BG games)
2.OSU(Many times incl. All BG games)
3.Penn State
5.Michigan
6.Michigan St.
7.Navy
8.Pitt
9Kentucky (all BG games)
10.Missouri
11.Syracuse(all BG games)
12.W.Virginia

Seems like there may be more but can't recall other trips right now...several places were visited more than on more than one occasion, usually when BG was playing there. But then again, wasn't setting it as a goal to see the stadia per se....was on many other campuses, just not to see the stadia. Fun idea though...wish I could take the time to do what you're doing.

Guess I forgot to include the MCB and GMAC games too.
When I saw some of the other posts, it helped me recall the following:
Colorado
USAFA
Tennessee

I've got to add another gem for you guys. Mr. Botox has played in quite a few big places like Texas, A&M, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Iowa State, but mainly SWC schools.

We met in law school in MI, so he was excited to scope out UM & Michigan State's stadiums. He was duly impressed After we graduated though, we had to go up to a wedding in Columbus. It was one of the guys he played with, & a bunch of them wanted to see OSU's stadium. About 6 of the guys & their wives (including me) went up to the Horseshoe. I had been there a bunch, but none of them had ever seen it.

ALL 6 of the guys said what a total s*#thole that place was. A security guard came by & ran us off, my H said "don't worry, we're leaving. This place sucks!"

Yeah, it's a fun idea. It's going to take me awhile, but I started trying it several years ago and it's become a mission of mine now. I saw many of the MAC stadiums just by making road trips while I was at BG, and I've seen all the ACC stadiums except Miami's while I was on work-related road trips while working here at Virginia. I also saw LSU, Oregon and Oregon State on work-related trips. Then there were just others stadiums on random trips, etc. Before I knew it, I had a pretty good start with just that alone. Now, when I am traveling (for fun or work) or going somewhere new, I always try to work in a stadium here and there if possible.
GO BG!!!

Yeah, I agree, I didn't start this thread with a contest in mind. I was just curious where everyone else has been. It's fun to see/hear where everyone else has been. That's why I hope if we don't add another home game next season since we are playing 12 games next year (we still have one more to add), I am hoping it will be to a place I've never been so I can try and go to another new place.
GO BG!!!
