was talking with some friends, metz included and we've come to a conclusion that if you have to include his first and last name, then hes not a big enough heisman candidate. Also, people dont want to type in 20 letters, to get to a heisman website. Dont get me wrong, I DO think omar is big enough to be a heisman candidate! With that said, I/WE recommend www.Omar4Heisman.com What a beautiful touch with his number included.

someone has it registered already, likely a squatter, I'd think.

I don't know that I completely agree with the "if you need both names" theory, but with a candidate that's already getting press and has a fairly unique name, just going by "Omar" works well. The "4" in the domain name seems cheesy to me, but the graphic possibilities are outstanding when set up that way.

Most people are not going to type anything to get to the site. Almost anybody that finds it, will do so through either a search engine or another web page. Thus, how many letters doesn't matter.

I considered going with one name or two. However I think that it provides more of a refined element to use his proper name, spell the words out, etc. Short-cuts are for people that don't get the domain they want. There may well be other sites, but they are all short-cut versions of what I've got. The mans name is Omar Jacobs, he is going for the Heisman.

When somebody Googles him, they'll almost certainly use both names. I tend to think a site with both will show up faster. The blog in any case ought to move up quicker than other variations.

If one wants to really up the promotion, reserve and point other domains at a single site, cover all bases.

The man's name is Omar Teaufelas Jacobs. I believe you are the one who took the shortcut

OK, OK, but add the T in the middle of it and it sounds like he's a Star Trek fan. Not that I want to alienate the Trekkie vote in all those little Green men states.

And to settle half of the bet, I also reserved www.Jacobs4Heisman.com.

In any case I'm really not wanting to do write-ups myself, nor make long-form (winded) posts about him.

I've got the blog set-up along with Atom and RSS feed options. The email list is also linked there.

How about a blog by Omar himself?

Post by duckunder53 »

Did anyone ever think of having a blog from Omar himself on the site? I think it'd be great if he posted every once in a while (hopefully more than the coaches have). Matt Leinart does this as it looks like he is running his own site (www.mattleinartblog.com). I think it would be a pretty decent attraction and a great addition to what you all are doing for the man.

That could be a cool idea, though I wonder how much say the University would want to have in anything he wrote? Or maybe they've got it in the works for something like that of their own? Hell, if DD can think up getting Dusan to start a blog, certainly the football team can get Omar in front of a keyboard once a week, right?

Also, unrelated to the website front, but semi-related to the promotion side of things, I keep seeing/hearing ads around Indy with the coaches and players of Purdue and IU football promoting the season and ticket sales. Obviously, this lays to rest any questions of likenesses and imagery that is allowed with college athletes and advertising. I can't imagine it would be that tough to throw together a couple 30 second spots with Coach Brandon and a few of the stars to promote the upcoming season. Even in the time it took me to write that paragraph, I thought up a handful of ideas for commercials, from the serious (you're missing some damn good football, get your ass to the Doyt!) to the cheesy (shadows of Omar, Chuck, PJ, Teddy P. come walking out of a cornfield "Field of Dreams"-style as the lights come on at the Doyt, even with a "Field of Dreams" slogan at the end) to the downright hokey (the same crew of players walk through the lockerrooms and onto the field like the idiots on the South Side 6 commercial... tell me everyone in NW Ohio wouldn't perk up and get a laugh out of that, long enough to get the ticket office phone number!). Then get spots in the Toledo, Lima, even Dayton TV markets and go to town.

(Sorry, that was quite a rant, please continue.)

I think having Omar do his own blog is exactly what Coach Brandon wants to avoid. I'm sure none of us think Omar couldn't handle it of course, but it opens up the chance for a player to motivate another team or a million other things.

I think having somebody do straight-up articles on stats, with somebody else doing color commentary, etc, would break things up nicely.

You're probably right in some sense about the blog. If it was kept professional and just to update a few things, I think it would work out alright.

From what I can tell, the Omarjacobsforheisman.nwlb.net blog I setup nearly 8 months ago is among the top four responses given by Yahoo when searching for "omar jacobs." The blog has gotten 6 hits from people searching for it that way in the last two days since I started counting.

Since I just updated it, I'd expect it will start crawling up Google pretty quick, Blogger products typically do.

I think you are right on this one. At one of the Women's events last year that Omar and some of the receivers were at, I mentioned to Coach Brandon that "people on the board are calling him Omarvelous" and he rolled his eyes and immediately turned to one of the players and said something like not wanting Omar to hear that and it was up to him (the player he was talking to) to "keep Omar's feet on the ground!!" I am sure Coach Brandon does not want Omar to have the distractions of a public blog or whatever. He was dead serious about keeping Omar's head in the right place regarding his obvious success and the attention it was already garnering. Anything we, as fans, do on our own will be fine, but don't expect the Coach to allow Omar to be involved in anything that would single him out above the team as a whole.

Just my thoughts on the matter, fwiw.

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I do intend to list some kind of contact information for whomever should come across the site.

Whom among can objectively say they are good at speaking on the radio, if say I want to keep a "speakers pool" ready for the contacts section?

I'm going to start posting the site as of Aug. 1.
