Not a bad post at all. Unfortunately, you may be right.

thanks, it seemed realistic to me, i tried not to take to many suprises, i just cant say that we will waltz into Miami and win when they have a good D and we always struggle there... the way i had it would be Miami-UT champ game, and i would take Miami to win that... there is still a chance that we could get a bowl game at 9-2!

There's a chance we'll get a bowl game if we don't win the East and finish 9-2. But the odds of that, to quote the venerable John "Dubs" Weinert are "Slim and None, and Slim is a-packin' his bags."

Barring some bizarre circumstance - i.e. post-game fight between two bowl-eligible BCS conference teams near the end of the season - only two MAC teams make it to a bowl this year. If BG doesn't win its division and get to the MACC game, we don't go to a bowl.

i know the odds are slim, but last year 5 teams from the MAC made it and some other teams like Troy got in there as well, all we need is 1 extra space open and i think we would get picked, b/c of our exciting offense, and Omar, and losses @ MAC champs Miami and @ Boise, thats pretty darn resonable, but you are right theres a good chance we wouldnt get in b/c we dont have a tie in..

Sadly, I have to agree. We only get that one extra slot if there are NO eligible teams from BCS conferences or major independent. Last year was a total fluke, and we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that today in the MAC, its the same as ever. Win or stay home. Its brutal, but that's the way it is.

Last year five MAC teams went to bowls, true.

However, two went because AND ONLY BECAUSE South Carolina and Clemson had to decline bowl invites. If their season didin't end with a bench-clearing brawl, two MAC teams stay home, plain and simple.

One of the MAC bowl bids went to Marshall. According to everything I've read and head, C-USA basically paid for Marshall to get into that game.

Put those two together and you have, voila, two MAC teams in bowls. So, again, barring something really extraordinary, it's win your division or stay home.

I really do see BG finishing ahead of Miami. I see Miami losing to NIU, and one other East team. I know, I have said before Miami is gonna run the board, but I am being honest and blunt now.

Conference USA stepped in to help Marshall because the MAC decided it wasn't going to help a team that was already packing its bags for a new league.

Instead, the MAC helped other conference teams.

This included financial help.

I'm pretty sure the MAC effectively agreed to accept less than the full Independence Bowl pay out in order to get Miami in (by taking the full payout and then forwarding a substantial cut back to the bowl game to help with "marketing" or whatever).

And, in light of the disasterous attendance at the Silicon Valley Bowl which promoters should have seen coming, I've got to think our mid-season contract to send a third team there included a similar financial scheme.

My point here is that I'm not prepared to assume Marshall would have gone bowling ahead of a third MAC team. Not at all.

For one thing, that Silicon Valley Bowl contract was locked down weeks before the end of the season. I see no reason to think they would want a 6-5 Marshall instead of a superior Northern Illinois or Miami. Troy and Marshall had already played that season, and it wasn't like Marshall was going to put many more butts in seats in San Jose.

Are you saying the MAC cheated to get Miami into the most prestigious bowl in school history, and in MAC history? Hey, now, I think Miami earned that spot!

And remember we lost, you guys beat the tar outta Memphis!

The reason the MAC got five slots last year was because of the eligibility rules. The rules have changed this year with 12 games and allowing wins against 1AA to count towards the win totals. Last year there just weren't enough teams to fill conference's allocations. Akron was the only bowl eligible team (with the exception of Clemson and SC who were suspended because of fighting) who didn't go. With the rules as they are this year, the MAC will only get 2 slots unless something extraordinary happens.

Irrespective, this season is a disappointment if we don't win the MAC.

Actually this season still only has 11 games. It goes to 12 next year.
