BGSU Football Player Dies
Bowling Green State University student Aaron Richardson, who was one of nine individuals to join the BGSU football team as a non-recruited walk-on today, passed away at Wood County Hospital after falling ill during the first 10 minutes of Wednesday's practice.
"The University is reviewing the circumstances surrounding Aaron's passing," said BGSU Vice-President for Student Affairs Ed Whipple. "This tragedy has saddened our entire University."
A freshman, Richardson is a native of Sandusky and attended Perkins High School where he became the first boys athlete from PHS to compete at the Ohio High School State Championships in four events last June.
"This is a sad day for our University community and our thoughts and prayers go out to Aaron's family and friends," said BGSU Athletic Director Paul Krebs.

I can't imagine the pain his family is going through right now. Walked on and died 10 minutes into his first practice ever as a Falcon.
I've heard some great things about this kid over the past couple of hours. He was quite an amazing athlete at Perkins last year. It's so sad.
Please remember the family and friends of Aaron Richardson in your prayers tonight, as well as all the members of the team and coaching staff and the BGSU community as a whole.
We've lost a young Falcon tonight.... God be with his soul and comfort those who knew him.

Wow, I cannot imagine outliving my child, that must be agonizing.
My thoughts are with the family and it is a good point to hug the ones you love tonight....
Makes budget deadlines, term papers, cleaning the house etc. all pretty minor inconveniences when soemthing like this happens. Very sad indeed.

Prayers and condolennces to the Richardson family and their friends.
Before my daughter was born, I spent alot of time worrying about her delivery. (my wife and I were kind of old for first time parents) I figured if she was born safely I could quit worrying. Little did I know then that a parent never quits worrying. I cannot imagine having my worst fears realized.

To An Athlete Dying Young....
by A.E. Housman
The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.
To-day, the road all runners come,
Shoulder high-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.
Smart lad, to slip betimes away
From fields where glory does not stay
And early though the laurel grows
It whithers quicker than the rose.
Eyes the shady night has shut
Cannot see the record cut,
And silence sounds no worse than cheers
After earth has stopped the ears:
Now you will not swell the rout
of lads that wore their honours out,
Runners whom renown outran
And the name died before the man.
So set, before its echos fade,
The fleet foot on the sill of shade,
And hold to the low lintel up
The still-defended challenge-cup.
And round that early-laurelled head
Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead,
And find unwithered on its curls
The garland briefer than a girl's.

My prayers go out especially to his family, friends, and teammates. I definitely did not expect this as I logged in tonight. This can really put things into perspective because things like this happen out of nowhere and they can hit hard with so many. You'll always be a Falcon Aaron and I'm sure you will always be remembered in great light by many.

This is just horrible news. I can't imagine what it must be like for Aaron's family and friends. I'm heartbroken...
My prayers will be with Aaron's family, friends, the BGSU community and the football program. I am so sorry to hear this happened. I pray God wil provide strength and comfort to all who knew this young man.
Peace and God bless....

Having just experience a rather shocking death in my family, I can only say that it's very uplifting to see all of the support from the Falcon and Sooner faithful.
To the Richardson family, BGSU staff and players and Aaron's friends . . . May you find peace with this tragic news and comfort in the support of the Falcon community. It sure sounds like you/we were all touched and blessed to have such a young man in your lives. My condolences as well and my God bless you at this time of your loss.
