Along with the praise being paid to Anthony, I would like to throw in my 2 cents worth. Corey and Anthony were roommates all last year. I have had an opportunity to be around Anthony a couple of times, not just the normal 'Hi Anthony, how you doing', I am talking a few hours visit. He actually went with Corey and I to watch us play a couple of volleyball matches.

Anthony is a great guy. I can't say enough of the impression he makes when he is around. He is very nice and friendly. I was very impressed with his spring game and think we all can feel very good about who will be taking over for Omar when he leaves.

As for this 2-back set idea. Omar flanked by Turner and Partridge, that's kinda funny, what is PJ spread out wide at receiver? lol...

Here's a little update on Corey. During summer break, Corey developed mono. He was not allowed to do any running or lifting for 3-4 weeks. He lost his appetite and to tell the truth looked to have lost alot of muscle mass.

Well that changed once he was allowed to get back into it. Corey began eating everything he could get his hands on. And I guess they have really been pushing him hard in the weight room. Corey has put on about 15 pounds since the spring game, he is weighting in around 198. My only concern is for his speed and agility. If he can keep what he showed in the spring game with the added weight, Look Out!!!!

I told him that he should watch out that they would make him into a safety if he wasn't careful.

Can't wait to whip the Badgers....

HAHA!

Thanks for the update, although it sucks to here that about Corey. Hope he's feeling better and is ready to play some football now. Sounds as though he's recovered pretty well, and in time for camp too.

I don't know about safety, but I still wouldn't complain if we saw Corey play a little CB as well as WR ;)

I don't get it? With the speed that he showed in the spring game, that seems about ideal size for a CB. Sure we'd love a 6'1+ guy, but they're rare, even in the NFL.

His size is about ideal for an NFL CB, I cannot see why he wouldn't cut it as a MAC CB?

Yes... that's the perfect size for a corner. 5-11, 198 is adequate size to play either safety in the MAC.

I think Van Johnson is going to turn some heads at CB this year. He runs a 4.5 ish 40, has good size (listed at 6'-1") and he showed great insticts in breaking hard on that int he had on Omar in the spring game. The guy only threw 4 int's lat year, so getting one on him is quite an achievement!

Maybe I'm just a homer, but I don't think you'll find a team in the midwest that can match our two deep talent at QB.

In my NCAA 2006 game following hte '05 season (MAC Champs, #7 national ranking, Sharon=Heisman) Partridge was actually #2 on my depth chart at corner. I haven't started the season yet, but may play him both ways. . .

Considering that Omar is one of the best QBs in the country and that Turner seems to be a more than capable backup, I don't think you'll find many teams in the country that can match our two deep talent at QB.

Spart43,

Thanks for that update on Corey. Good to hear he is back on track. He really impressed everyone in that spring game.

Kdog,
I miss Andy Sahm, too. He was pretty highly touted coming out of HS (Indianapolis Chatard) in the late 90's but, unfortunately, didn't have a great team around him to flourish. I will never forget his first start vs the Rockettes in 1999. Great win and a great game...300+ yards passing.
When Meyer took over and he saw that Josh was gonna be the man, Andy NEVER complained and accepted his role on the team...very few players can do that. We sat with his parents at the 2002 football banquet and you could tell why Andy was an exceptional young man. He was a total team player.

As far as Turner? He reminds me more of Harris than Jacobs physically...and throws about the tightest spiral this side of John Elway. I think he'll be an excellent QB in the system. Hopefully, he'll get decent PT thru the season.

936 hours and 31 minutes til kickoff....

Freak, You are right Sahm was a standup guy. My roommate did several architect projects with him and he always seemed like total class to me. He worked his butt off to be the starting QB in 2002 but just was not quite good enough to start. Personally I always felt like he should have been starting in the Kent, NIU, and USF games when Harris had that hamstring injury and was not nearly 100%. Yeah that 1999 Toledo games is one of my favorites, probably the game that got me addicted to Falcon football. Sahm probably would have started for 3/4 of the teams in our conference that year.

Turner is a lot more like Harris than Omar. He's a bit faster than Omar and can allude tackles better. As for his throwing ability, he might actually have a better arm than Omar, not so sure about more accurate, though.

Also, another poster said he PICKED BG over Iowa and WVU. That isn't necessarily true. There were defintely circumstances surrounding his recruitment that almost forced him to pick BG. In any event, I love that we have him.

In the long run Anthony will be an excellent player for us at BG. Anthony attended the same high school as myself and was a freshman when I was a senior. I watched probably 98% of every high school game he had ever played. I was unable to see the spring game so I am going to mention some of his strengths and weakness coming out of high school and would like to know how he is doing in these same areas with a couple more years under his belt.

Strengths:

Strong Arm
Stong frame
Runs like a fullback
Athletic
Winner

Weaknesses:

Holding on to the football
Decision making
Accuracy

Anthony as a person is top notch. As a BG alumni I am very proud to have such upstanding individuals as Anthony Turner representing our university. He has strong support from his family including his Chaminade - Julienne family. Having seen him play starting as a DB as a freshman and a QB as a sophomore through senior I would like to share some of my favorite Turner memories.

Massillon ~ CJ played at Massillon when Anthony was a sophomore and he took the hardest hit I have ever seen. The hit was dished out by Shawn Crable who currently plays for U of M. The hit was aweful but the situation was amazing as Anthony laid on the turf for a few minutes. He got up jogged off and returned one serious later to lead a sophomore laden CJ team to a respectable 48-27 loss to a Justin Zwick led Massillon team. Turner and CJ would return to play Massillon his senior year and blew Massillon off the field dominating from start to finish. CJ would return to that same field and Turner led CJ to a state title with a little help from star sophomore running back Javon Ringer.

Toledo St. Francis ~ The best passing display I have ever seen from Anthony came in the state semi-finals against Toledo St. Francis. Turner picked their defense apart hitting on long pass after long pass as CJ handily defeated St. Francis.

Roger Bacon ~ CJ had a small lead in terrible weather against Roger Bacon High School. It was the fourth quarter and CJ was pinned on thier own one yard line. Coach calls a quarter back sneak to try and gain some breathing room. Anthony took the ball into the scrum of lineman and had no where to go. He then bounced outside and ran 99 yards for a TD.

I could go on all day with memories that Anthony has created in CJ football lore. But I will stop at three. One speaks to his character and toughness and the other two speak to his talent. Anthony was a joy to watch play football and basketball. He single handidly won the state semi-final basketball game against Watterson which led to a state title berth in basketball his senio year. Oh well I will stop bragging on Anthony because despite all of this he definately needed to improve if he wanted to play DI football and I think improving is exactly what has happened.

TG-

Not really something I will elaborate about on a free message board. Just understand there were defintely circumstances around his recruitment that did not allow him to go to WVU or Iowa.

Um, yeah... Okay then.

Maybe there were, but regardless, I think he's better off here than WVU for sure, and quite possibly Iowa as well.
