Falcons Picked To Win MAC
BGSU opens season September 3 at Wisconsin
July 25, 2005
Detroit, Michigan - The Mid-American Conference News Media Association (MACNMA) has picked Bowling Green to win the MAC East Division and capture the MAC Championship game in 2005. There were 42 ballots cast and the Falcons received 30 first place votes to 12 for Miami when deciding who would come out on top in the East Division. BGSU was chosen by 22 members to win the MAC title game, while Toledo received 10 votes, Miami six and Northern Illinois four votes.
"We're excited about the expectations surrounding our program," said third-year coach Gregg Brandon. "Our profile nationally continues to grow and we hope that will energize our fan base to support our team home and away."
The Falcons (37-12) have the MAC's best record since 2001 and are one of 15 teams to win back-to-back bowl games the last two seasons. BGSU defeated Memphis, 52-35, in the 2004 GMAC Bowl. Junior All-American quarterback Omar Jacobs leads a list of 12 returning starters from last season. He passed for 4,002 yards and threw a national-best 41 TDs.
BGSU opens its home season October 1 against Temple. To purchase season tickets, contact the BGSU Athletic Ticket Office, at 877-BGSU Ticket.

I don't think this is a kiss of death. We haven't won in the past few years and we haven't been picked to win it either. UT was picked last year and they won it. I believe Miami was picked the prior year, when they won. Things have held pretty true to form, so this just may be the "GOOD LUCK CHARM" we needed.

We must win the MAC in 2005. Anything else won't cut it. Coach Brandon said it best after the victory at Purdue...
"You get what you expect". I expect to see Coach Brandon hoisting the MAC trophy in Detroit on Dec 1st.
Now, we need to go out and do it. Beating the BCS teams, winning bowls and getting ranked with national coverage is great. But I want that MAC trophy for the new Sebo Ct. 1992 seems like a lifetime ago and way too long for BG to go without a title.
And if we need a "good luck charm"...BG won the MAC in 1965, 1985 and what is 20 years later? 2005.
39 days baby, 39 days....this is getting good.

My question is, if we don't win the MAC this year, then when will we ever again??? We are loaded in some areas and it's set up for us to take if we execute. This might be our year on paper, now it's up to us to get the job done on the field. We've had some great seasons the past few years, but this one "could" be even better. I can't wait for it to all get underway and see.

One of Nostradamus's quatrains states that if not this year, then BG will most certainly win the MAC in 2007. I also consulted a Magic Eight Ball, and it also confirmed that if not this year, then most definitely 2007. Now on the otherhand, my local soothsayer seems to think if not this year then it will be 2008, but what in the hell does she know.BGSU33 wrote:My question is, if we don't win the MAC this year, then when will we ever again???
But yeah your right, the stars are aligned for BG to make a run at the MACC this season. Either way, I have feeling that this is going to be one hell of a season to remember.

I am very excited...I don't want my expectations to run wild and place BG in a BCS game, but 8-3 is so passe'.
I think/ hope/ want for us to be undefeated and heading for a BCS bowl, but I don't want to feel like the season is a waste if we do lose a game.
wow, I am excited. Is this what it is like for you all the time, Freak???

Thoughts of BCS would be mind-boggling, no doubt!!! But I would be extremely happy to just win the MAC already. I'll take an 8-3 season if it means winning getting to the MAC Championship and winning it, then going off to another bowl and winning our third bowl game in a row. But I won't talk much about BCS anything until it comes to fruition. I've been dreaming of a MAC Championship for over a decade and that hasn't happened yet, and the BCS is even further out of reach......though it would be UNFALCONBELIEVABLE!!!

Multiply that times 10 and you MIGHT be getting close to a true state of "FREAK!":ROFL:Falcon30 wrote:wow, I am excited. Is this what it is like for you all the time, Freak???
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I'm very excited for the season. I just don't have confidence that BG beats Miami.
Call me the wet rag in the bunch, but I believe we all watch Miami and either NIU or UT (the latter being the favorite) play in the MACC.
I say this now because I am still uncertain of the impact the new DC will have on the defense. I'm hoping a lot.
