That I did not know. I remember listening on the radio thinking how in the heck did Andy Sahm just run 63 yards? And to come so close to the endzone...BGGrad01 wrote:At the time, that run was the longest non-scoring run in BGSU history. I think either PJ or BJ had a longer run last year that didn't score.

This seems to have sent some people offa bit. How about this one, being an Iowa fan I can tell you that the Hawkeyes never officially offered Turner a scholarship. They were set with that position as you may note they had their own sophomore first year starter last season named Conference player of the year.BGSU2005 wrote:Turner is a lot more like Harris than Omar. Also, another poster said he PICKED BG over Iowa and WVU. That isn't necessarily true. There were defintely circumstances surrounding his recruitment that almost forced him to pick BG. In any event, I love that we have him.
I think a lot of time schools in the M.A.C. hype players that were recruited, ranging from light contact to offered scholarships, as having chose said school over the big boys. When, in fact, ias this poster has pointed out, that is not exactly the complete truth.

Re: Andy Sahm
According to the 2003 media guide, Sahm's run was 65 yards and the longest non-scoring run at that time by one yard over Jeff Davis' scamper versus Richmond in 1984. BJ Lane had a 78-yarder against Ball State in 2003 that did not result in a TD. I remember thinking after Lane's run that Andy Sahm's name was officially out of the BGSU record book. I was bummed.kdog27 wrote:That I did not know. I remember listening on the radio thinking how in the heck did Andy Sahm just run 63 yards? For those that weren't in Lawrence, I think the Sahm run is on the 2002 season's highlight video. Now back to the Anthony Turner talk.

Anthony was being recruited by a lot of bigger schools but that does not mean that they offered. Many schools also envisioned Anthony playing a position other than QB. The only other school that I though Anthony may end up at that is in a bigger conference than us but is no better than us is Kentucky. Kentucky was after him and Anthony liked Kentucky as well. In the end it is over and done and we are lucky to have him. He was a high profile recruit who made a wise decision to come to a school where he would one day have the opportunity to play QB as opposed to going to a "big" school and sitting the bench or playing tight end, receiver, or safety.
I don't doubt you guys see some BS posts like this. And I haven't been on this board long enough for you all to trust me, which is fine. This is a free board, so any person can come off the street claiming just about anything. And you can choose to believe what I have to say or not. This is one time that the circumstances surrounding what happened during Anthony's recruitment should not be discussed on a free message board. That's what I was getting at. Information is always welcome, and we understand if you have a need to keep it on the hush, but we've seen way too many "My frat buddy saw Omar talking to a cop outside Downtown, he's gonna be suspended." type posts to take very many "trust me, I know what I'm saying" posts all that seriously.
It's cool. I'm glad you understand our criticism. BTW like someone else said, I'm just happy to have him hereBGSU2005 wrote:I don't doubt you guys see some BS posts like this. is Turner really faster than Omar, i saw that posted... that doesnt seem right or make him more like Josh Harris...
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
Yeah, he had a great year and he started QB for that game because the starter was suspended for the 1st quarter. Then Corey moved to RB when the 2nd quarter started. Corey was playing injured in that game. He had torn up some cartilage in his shoulder in the 9th game of the year. He could barely raise his right arm above his head, but he complete 3 of his 4 passes. I asked him how could he throw with that shoulder and he said "you do what you have to". They worked him so much in that game that he cramped up near the end of the 4th quarter. He played something like 125-130 plays that game going both ways.Capital City Falcon wrote: From the Loveland fans I talked to Corey carried there team all year. Loveland has some good fans and I enjoyed the opportunity to talk to them.
He had surgery to repair that shoulder about 3 weeks after that game. It pretty much ended his baseball pitching career. The kid had an 88 mph fastball when he was 16 with a wicked curve. We went to a couple of CJ's games later in the playoffs. I still think that was Anthony's junior year when thay won the state.
Nice sharing some memories with you. It's cool that they have been roommates and good friends. I hope Corey can catch alot of Anthony's passes in the coming years.

It wasn't the "MAC schools" (BG) that hyped Turner (or, at least, it was only the MAC schools). The "offers", whether fact or fiction, were listed on recruiting sites prior to Turner making his decision.Dayons_Den wrote:This seems to have sent some people offa bit. I was more vaguely referring to some recent recruits touted as having chosen Akron or wherever over the likes of OSU or LSU when in fact that is stretching the truth a bit.BGSU-Ph.D. wrote:It wasn't the "MAC schools" (BG) that hyped Turner (or, at least, it was only the MAC schools). Again as to the fact that "Iowa" and "WVU" offered him I 'd be interested to see what the definition of "offered" is. As pointed out earlier does that mean they said you get a full scholarsihp but we want you at DB, does that mean we'll give you a partial and you can QB the scout team this season?
Not specifically saying Turner wasn't getting legit offers from these place, I was merely pointing out that it is easy to get caught up in the semantics of all his terminology.

The offers are legit and are verifiable by numerous sources, including high school coaches. They also aren't usually casual conversations but rather written letters stating the specific terms of the agreement.
What's amazing is the irrelevence of this topic in the grand scheme of things. Omar was dropped by Kansas State after someone else committed and he's now predicted by major media outlets to be the first quarteback selected in the 2006 NFL Draft. Alex Smith was only "offered" by Louisville (where his uncle was the coach) and Utah.
It.......is..........meaningless.

Fine post, Joe. I agree. First, I think all recruiting info is suspect, and, as others have said, we often overstate how much "interest" other schools had in our guys. I don't really think players choose MAC schools over other schools when they have a real choice.JoeFalcon wrote:The offers are legit and are verifiable by numerous sources, including high school coaches. Having said that, no matter what the circumstances were, Turner is a Falcon, just like Omar is a Falcon. By all reports, he is a fine person and a credit to the university. Hopefully, his academics are proceeding well, and we will see him as a Falcon.
If someone else lost interest in him, that's their loss.
