Michigan State?

Post by Salsa »

Michigan State has announced that for their 12th game in 2006 and 2007 they will play home games against Idaho and UAB. Real competition, huh?

With the new 12th game scheduling agreement between the MAC and the Big 10, I was hoping we might play, among others, Michigan State. Of course, we still might in 2008 or 2009.

Are the Spartans avoiding BG? You would think that with Ron Mason, former BG hockey coach (isn't he still their AD) and both of us playing in the CCHA, that a BG-Mich St. game would be very possible. I'd love, for example, to see a match up at Ford Field, a sure sell out. But I'd be happy with a game at Mich St.

I really do think the Spartans don't want to play us. I'm predicting that the next Big 10 team that might fall into the lower tier is the Spartans. They failed to become bowl eligible last year and really haven't done well for some time.

MSU has Eastern on the schedule in 06 & 08 and Western on the schedule in 07. Maybe they felt that they hit their one MAC school per year quota.

I'd love to see Bowling Green play Michigan State.

Oh well.

You know, I don't mind MSU, their fans aren't as totally obnoxious as OSU. I'd go to an MSU-BG game in Spartan Stadium. Or the Doyt. Heck, that'd be a good game to put in Cleveland!

You're obviously not a Michigan fan. Or been one of only 5 BG fans at the State hockey game, in East Lansing.

True, but that would a better game to put in Detroit. Closer for both schools, and their fan bases.

Goofy, I didn't even think of Detroit. And no, I'm not a Meecheegan fan. I root for the Volunteers of the University of Tennessee! (And a few other teams.)

My family is orginally from michigan. Dad graduated from U of M. Half my relatives either went to/root for U of M. The other half MSU. Michigan loses to OSU, I hear about for a week or so. U of M loses to MSU, I hear about for an entire year!!

It is widely thought the reason Wisconsin was willing to play us at Cleveland Browns Stadium was to maintain a presence in Ohio (for recruiting purposes) while Ohio State was not on the Badgers' schedule.

I could see other Big Ten schools trying the same thing.

We went to the second game in Munn this year. Seemed pretty low key where we were sitting. I dare say that the people we talked to were friendly.. Surprising, but true. Maybe we caught them on an off day, or they aren't as bad as they used to be. We're definitely going back up there for hockey this winter and I'd definitely do a football trip too!

Would be great to play the Spartans anywhere, anytime. They beat us 10-7 in 1981 and that's the only time BG and MSU have met on the football field.
Are they avoiding BG? Perhaps, but they do schedule the directional Mich schools quite a bit and they are hosting Kent State this year. They'll play the MAC teams but not BG, UT or Miami. Hmmm....

They won't play Miami because, when they were ranked like 5th in the country, we almost beat them.(That was the 70's.) They robbed Miami of a win, and in fact that was Miami's only loss(I believe) in 3 years. Dern Spartans. HAHA.
