We Can't Let UT Get This Kid

I have watched Chris Meenan play and mark my words, if we let Toledo get him he will be a thorn in our defense's side. This kid has absolutely amazing blocking ability, he doesn't very often let any d-lineman get past him. If schools like Purdue, Ohio State, Notre Dame have shown interest in him and Toledo Tom has already offered him, what are we waiting for?? He wants to make his verbal before schools starts so he can concentrate on his senior year so if we want him we need to get with the program and offer him. If he isn't wearing the orange and brown then we better hope that he doens't end up a Rocket.





Toledo Offers, Purdue Stands Out

Chris Meenan, an offensive lineman, from Wooster, Ohio, had two uncles that played football for Ohio State and an older brother that attended Purdue. The 6-foot-7, 315-pounder, opened a lot of eyes in Akron at the Scout.com All-American Combine. Meenan told us which school offered him a scholarship and where he’ll be camping this summer.

“Toledo is my only scholarship offer at this point,” Chris Meenan said.

“My favorites are Purdue, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Toledo, Illinois, Boston College and Miami (Ohio).

“I’ve already camped at Miami and I plan on camping at Bowling Green, Toledo, Indiana, Purdue, Boston College, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

“I want to get out there and prove myself against the competition. Purdue would be high on my list right now. My brother went to school at Purdue. I like the coaches, the program and the offense. Purdue is showing a strong interest right now.”

Meenan will be a two-year varsity starter in 2005. He did play varsity football as a sophomore but split time with a senior at tackle. Chris graded out at 89% in his blocking assignments as a junior and he also had 51 pancake blocks.

As we mentioned before, Meenan had two uncles who played for the Buckeyes on the offensive line and his father played his college football at Kent State. Chris does have the family football genes but he still has much to work on.

“I need to work on my speed,” Meenan explained. “I need to work on improving my 40-yard time and my shuttle time.

“I think my strengths are my pulling and trapping ability. I can also get out on the running backs and make big blocks.”

Meenan also letters in track & field. He carries a 2.8 GPA in the classroom.

Seems like a decent kid. I don't like the idea of trying to get a recruit simply because UT is interested in them.

I think he would be a good recruit for BG if he keeps his grades at a decent level.

This should be about BG not UT.

Sounds like he's headed to a bigger school (Purdue). He'd be great to have but If he is this highly touted I don't think he'll end up here or Toledo. I agree we shouldn't recruit preventatively. We need kids that fit our system, not toiletto's

Chris Meenan, (6’7”, 314) offensive lineman from Wooster (Ohio) checks in with Scout.com to give an update on his recruiting. “So far I only have one offer from Toledo.” “Bowling Green and Miami (OH) are showing heavy interest as well.”

Meenan has camped at Miami (OH), Toledo, Indiana, Purdue, Bowling Green, and will camp at Ohio State (6-24) and Notre Dame (6-25).

The most important factors in his decision will be academics and coaching. “It’s real important I find a place that has good academics, that’s my main concern.”

Meenan has family ties to college football as well, his father played at Kent State, and he has two uncles who played for Ohio State. Family genetics will only get you so far, and Meenan knows he has much to improve on as well. “Mainly my speed and my agility, I just want to be able to move much better.”

When discussing his strengths, “my strengths are pulling and trapping, I get out and make the big clocks that will break the play wide open.”

During his only year as a varsity player he graded out at 89% and had 51 pancake blocks. “Yeah, I had a good season, but I am trying to have a better one this year.” “Everything was new to me last season especially the speed, but I got used to pretty quick.”

Currently Meenan is receiving mail from Cincinnati, but an improvement in his speed and some good senior film could change the outlook from UC. “I would be interested I them, they are a good school who is now in the Big East.”

Meenan needs a lot of work on his footwork; he would need to play at Guard in college due to his lack of foot speed. His performance at the Scout.com combine in May showed he has flashes of being something special. Plus he has the genes for it as well, but he will need to make same vast improvements in the footwork area to be considered a top offensive lineman in Ohio.

He is listed as a *** recruit. Despite the mention in the article that we are pursuing him we are not currently among the schools that he is showing interest in. It is quite possible, however, that this has just not been updated, and that we are high on his list. He mentions camping at BG, so I have to believe that he's got some interest here.

From what I can tell he'd be a great get for our OL.

As far as where he might end up going in the MAC if it weren't BG.....I'd be more concerned about him landing at Miami (Ohio) than I am Toledo because of BG playing the MAC East. Just my opinion.

I have seen this kid play and I think he would make us a great o-lineman. With him in a game his qb definitely knows he will have some protection. He is quick and doesn't let anyone on defense push him around. I just hope that we are at least giving him a decent look before we just give up on him. He comes from great stock and is an extremely coachable kid who loves the game. He will do anything a coach asks of him and isn't afraid of hard work. From what I have seen from him he looks like the type of player we need.

UPDATE 6.7.05: Big physical linemen who is going under the radar in Ohio with such a deep and talented class. Has size and ability to be a top run blocking strong side tackle at the next level or even a pulling guard in the right system. Chris attended the Miami SR camp on Sunday and may have left with an offer. Has been offered by Toledo. Others recruiting Chris include: Notre Dame, Ohio State, Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, and Bowling Green. Here is a review of Chris after a Rivals camp at Penn State this summer:The camp was overall a bit down on the offensive line and lacked a real blue chipper. Meenan was the top player in our eyes and has some upside to him. Has a massive frame to him and is tough, strong and physical. Did well in the one on one drills as he's tough to beat off the edge because of his wing span and good lateral mobility.

I don't think it will be Ohio State, though. I think Purdue has a lot of interest in him, as well as a couple of other Big Ten schools and MAC schools. This is one of those years when there are some real blue-chip offensive linemen in Ohio, and as the one article said, Chris is kind of flying under the radar. You guys will have to forgive '96' a little, she just wants to see Chris at BGSU because he's a Wooster kid. I don't think we'll have to worry about seeing him at UT. I think he'll end up at a Big Ten school. Gregg Brandon does a great job of recruiting and I trust the judgment of him and the rest of our coaching staff. Despite the graduation losses, I think we're going to have a solid O-line this fall, along with some depth.

According to Rivals.com, they listed schools interested in Chris Meenan. BG was on the bottom part of the list and I did not see UT. Here is the website and there are some pretty big schools like Ohio State, Purdue, Iowa, and Notre Dame on that list.
