Another band tower?!

Post by Metz »

Yes folks, as I was driving through campus, I see another yellow band tower being put up on the fields on the field house side. It is one level shorter and it appears it has better braces at the bottom. Wonder where the funding came from...

I was up in BG today (for Laura Smith's senior recital, as it were) and Doc H mentioned that the FMB had gotten a largish loan from the university. She said the money went to pay for the new sousaphones, euphs, mellos, and tenor saxes, but maybe there was enough for a second, smaller tower?

No, I'm serious. The FMB will have something like thirty-five thousand dollars worth of new instruments this year, including sousaphones. But she said the sousas aren't in yet, cuz they had to special order the bells, or something.

Not new horns...a new tower. Hence the thread title. Gosh dang you all get off-topic in here!

i saw the tower tonight too... who knows... it'd be disappointing to think it's for a high school's band camp... but i didn't see a band around it... but there was like an awning (spelling doesn't count) who knows... maybe i need to work earlier shifts so things make sense in the moonlight :P regardless... i saw the scaffolding and wonder what it's about too

i mentioned this weeks ago. see page 3 of this thread.

the gold lacquer bell interior is a special order item. that, coupled with the fact that it often takes 3-6 months from the order date (and sometimes longer) for a conn 20K, means that it could still be a little while before the new sousaphones arrive.

If there were a high school band camp on our field, why wouldn't they just use our scaffolding that's already there?

i have driven past the field house a couple times and seen some sort of drumline outside practicing. not sure what drumline... but maybe them and their band are using the other scaffolding. if i swing by there again, i'll stop and get a quick pic of it and post it on here.

What the.....?

We've got major defections already going on with our basketball program and you guys are talking about a new tower and new sousaphones?

http://www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com/phpBB2/v ... php?t=6359

OK, I understand talking about the new sousaphones. As a former maggot, I'm damn proud we're buying the best damn section of the band new equipment. Now if we could only find a director that will get rid of all those damn flutes and clarinets
