Myself included . . . HOW DID WE MISS THIS???

http://www.nba.com/transactions/movement2004_index.html

Sept 14, 2004: Indiana Pacers sign second round pick Rashad Wright (formerly of Univ. of Georgia) and MAC alum and Kent State guy John Edwards . . .

ARE YOU SERIOUS??? This guy did have dramatic improvement from the time he was a freshman, but there's no way he gets even minimum-NBA money . . . if even just during training camp . . .

I think it's only fair to ask . . . Is it Larry Bird or Reggie Miller that Edwards has compromising photographs of . . . ??? . . . .

He's a legit 7-footer and he only started playing ball something like his senior year in high school. Is he real good right now? no. But considering his improvement throughout college I think they're willing to take a chance.

That's taking a BIG chance with him. He may have improved in college but I don't see him ready for the NBA yet. I guess we will all just have to wait and see if he gets any better through training camp.

Well there's no way he's going to play right away and make an immediate impact but Detroit's Darko Milicic was the second pick overall and only played garbage time. Edwards will have plenty of time to improve...I'm willing to say Larry Bird isn't an idiot and knows what he's doing.

How in the world can you be surprised by this "project" being signed?

After all, we're talking about a league that is taking kids out of junior high school and signing them to big bonuses and sneaker deals.

Same here Freak.

That said, Edwards is terrible. I'm not surprised that he's getting a look in the NBA because they put size above all, but I don't think he'll make it. He's slow, unathletic, and never did anything to impress me. Hell he was the one center in the MAC who Netter always dominated, usually on both sides of the ball. Basically because Netter's athleticism advantage was so great it made up for the fact that he had no clue how to play. Edwards may be a hard worker, and willing to learn, but the dude is just SLOW.

Besides he looks like Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off!

Talk to people that have played against him and they'll give you a different assessment.

I agree with the rest of your point about Netter though.

Edwards

I think that Edwards is closer to 7-2 than 7-0. He has a wide frame and he actually gets up and down the court very well for a guy his size.

Nonetheless, I'm surprised as well. His skills aren't that well developed at all. I figured that he'd go straight to Europe and not be heard from again.

He's a big body that comes from a program with a solid rep. I'm not suprised at all that he's getting some looks. He's a loooong way from actually earining a spot, but if Paul Mokeski could ride the pines in the NBA for a few years, I suppose Edwards could with some polish.
