Not to be a smart-aleck...but research is a beautiful thing....Justine came here fresh out of undergrad...but Jeff has done at least one, if not two, years of classroom teaching.jacojdm wrote:acutally, they were the second and third coming, respectively.Rightupinthere wrote:May I venture a guess and say that Ryan and Jason were ONLY grad assts?
in all fairness, they were indoubtedly the most qualified and talented GAs that the band program has seen the in past six years (my window of experience). they are both very talented, and they both did a lot of work in terms of arranging and drill writing. they are both highly competent conductors, as well, and they have better rehearsal discipline than any other GAs i have seen at bg. i think that this is because, unlike others (justine and jeff included), ryan and jason both have a couple years of clasroom teaching expereince.
.
Where will the band go?

Funny how someone who was never even in marching band under them answers that questionjacojdm wrote:acutally, they were the second and third coming, respectively.

Leah's right, Band(OH). We had him as a grad in 02 and 03, and he wrote drill for us in 04. He's all done with grad work now.
But you're right, he is a good guy, and a credit to BG and the FMB.

While their title was simply GA, it might be more accurate to say that they served as co-asst. directors, if not even co-directors, for their stint here, as they truly did almost everything.Rightupinthere wrote:
They were ONLY grad assistants, however. I worked with several who were just as competent - if not more-so in the case of one person. The band survived very well once they all moved on.

I heard no, but don't quote me on that.baritonebandgeek wrote:no no...we had him as a grad. He just wrote drill for us this year. He wasn't actually here. Anyone know if he's staying at Talawanda this year?

ALMOST EVERYTHING?????? What didn't they do? Oh yeah plan the trips....hence the reason there wasn't enough food at the Motor City Bowl trip!! lets do some math 30 pizzas and 100 cans of pop 190 people? I think prisoners at Guantanamo Bay have a better shot at getting fed!
Oh wait....thats right lets leave two conducting ladders at Ford Field...why? because "the Food and Music is waiting for us at the Hotel?" To steal a line from the smartest man I have never met "its like wiping before you poop....it just don't make any sense!!!"
What was the last show that Ryan or Jason didn't do? {still scratching my head}

Wasn't that more because there was a brand new asst band director? Hear me out on this. The previous asst director didn't care much for marching band. He made that well and clear. So, the GAs HAD to make up for the slack left by the asst director (and the director - let's be frank).SaxyIrishTenor wrote: While their title was simply GA, it might be more accurate to say that they served as co-asst. directors, if not even co-directors, for their stint here, as they truly did almost everything.
That empowered the GAs to have more of a role in the marching band that particular year because the new asst dir gave them more responsibility.
That's my outside perspective, but I believe this to be the truth.

I love Ryan and Jason as much, and maybe more, than the next FMBer, but let's put things in perspective. The FMB has been doing amazing things long before they were here and they will be doing amazing things long after. I think if you asked Ryan and Jason themselves, they would say the same.
As far as them effecting morale goes- if we can survive Dr. Toney telling us right before the homecoming game that we're merely a commercial to the football teams show, we can survive the loss of two great grads.

Yeah, but that's because they are modest people.Shakeatailfeather04 wrote:I think if you asked Ryan and Jason themselves, they would say the same.
