Where will the band go?

Yeah, but that's because they are modest people.

That's part of it, but they're also realistic people. I think they probably realize that one or two people do not make or break a band program.

I had also repressed the homecoming memory, but I was trying to think of one of the worst things Huto did and that came to mind

i was speaking of the bands on the whole. i should have offered that qualifier when i posted.

Speaking of doing your research, I recall that JDM did march in the FMB in the '99 season.

I am only repeating what everyone else has said but hopefully I am bringing a new way to look at it.

I don't think it's fair to assume the band program will fall apart without Ryan and Jason. Are those two guys amazing, modest, and ordinary? Yes, there is nothing in them that makes them the "second and third" coming to the FMB. They did their jobs, very well - but the band's will to WANT to do well also has helped the band improve. That desire to want to improve is still within the band.

Jeff and Justine are great TAs as well. Especially with Ryan still in BG, teaching as an assistant, how can you all expect Jeff and Justine to be able to step up when everyone is talking about Ryan and Jason? It is an unrealistic expectation to be able to evaluate Jeff and Justine, and, frankly they were not given enough respect.

Lastly, addressing the leaders within the FMB... you never know where they will come from. When old ones step down, new ones step up. That's just the way it is.

I would like to point out that Jeff and Justine could step up if they had the drive. Sure everyone talked about Ryan and Jason, but you can't live in peoples shadows. Maybe it's the fact I like to bring myself to be the center of attention, but you have to step up and prove yourself.

Am I saying they haven't? No. Could they have more? Definitely. The FMB will continue along like it always has, probably neither better or worse, but different. Things will just be different...

I officially give up on this thread. Talk to people...you'll see what kind of drive they have...how much they want to do things...but when you are constantly being compared to someone else...all you feel like you are doing is failing.

With that being said...I repeat, I'm done with this thread.

On the contrary, when I am compared to someone else, I try my best to be better than they are/were. I guess its just how people react to those kinds of things. Justine and Jeff have a wealth of knowledge, and although they kind of stood back from the action in 04, I would hope that they would take a much more active role within the band this year. They have the ability, its just about stepping up and using it.

That is what I was trying to get at. Double J's did some great things last year, but I think they could have been more assertive and caused that whole Ryan and Jason thing, that people seem to think is shadowing over them, to disappear. Like you said, it's about stepping up and using your abilities.

Anyone remember that day in Uni Band when he wanted us to play Eagle Bend and he was like "It's an All Skate" and Beetle was like "and we all fell down!"

Hmmm... well, when he was teaching us the Muppet Show in 2003, he decided to incorporate Sesame Street.... and out of the blue, over the loudspeaker told us during practice, "This run-through is brought to you by the letter one..... ah-ah-ah!" (A la the Count. And yes-- the letter one.)

That actually stuck around, on and off, for the rest of the season. *grin*

i was just thinking of posting that.. that is one thing i remember that was funny that jason said.
