Many so-called "sports fans" I run across know very little about sports (any and all sports). Once, I had an argument with about 5 people in my office about whether or not every team in the (D-1) NCAA basketball tournament was D-1.FalconKing wrote:I can't stand the question: "What division does Bowling Green play in?" They can't seem to understand why I get a pissed off look and sneer "1A....same as OSU, same as Michigan" and they are actually suprised by that. This probably happens about once a week when someone seems the BG stuff in my cube.
From an entirely objective perspective, if you are a college football fan, there really is no way you couldn't have heard of Bowling Green over the past four years.

No doubt FalconKing, I agree 100 percent. That burns me up too, especially when it comes to people actually living in the state of Ohio! How can you say you are a real college football fan in Ohio and not even know there is more than one D-I program (Ohio State) in your own state? Heck, Ohio is one of the top states for most D-I programs for crying out loud (Bowling Green, Ohio State, Miami, Cincinnati, Ohio, Kent State, Akron, Toledo).
If you are a "true" college football fan (D-I football for arguments sake), there's no reason you shouldn't at least know that there are teams in D-I like Utah State, North Texas, San Jose State, Idaho or Tulane, or any MAC school for that matter. It amazes me that these so-called college football "fans and experts" have such blinders on when it comes to the national scale. I consider myself a huge college football fan and I'll be the first to admit I don't know everything when it comes to every school, players, etc. But I promise you I can name all 119 D-I football schools and can probably hold a conversation someway, somehow about any one of those programs.
GO BG!!!
I have said it before and I will say it again. Fans of "mid major" teams are the most educated fans out there because they pay attention to the mid "major teams" and the "major" teams. I was talking to this so called huge Michigan fan the other day and he didn't even know their first game was againt NIU.

I would emphasize the "so called" huge fan. If you don't know who your team plays the first game of the season, regardless of the opponent, then you are a casual fan at best. More likely, you are a mindless automatom that likes the team because you've been brainwashed into thinking the world revolves around said mega U. Very perplexing.kdog27 wrote:I was talking to this so called huge Michigan fan the other day and he didn't even know their first game was againt NIU.
