Falcon Football Fix!!!!

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Hey all!

Yesterday, the Freaklings and I drove up for the 1st day of practice. Players were in shorts, jerseys and helmets. BGFan, Falcon Fanatic and I sat under one of the trees in folding chairs and took in the action.

Omar looked great. Anthony Turner looked good as well. The WR's looked F A S T! Brandon Jones was flying all over the field and Cory Partridge looked fine. The best catch of the day was Luke Alexander making a twisting catch from an Omar pass thrown behind him. He reached back and snagged it nicely. Looks like we'll be possibly running some shovel pass plays to the backs and some option plays with WR's. Omar just towers over most people on the field.

Van Johnson was very impressive on D as he had a couple PBU on deep balls. BGFan made the comment that "Our DB's are keeping up with the WR's....which is a good thing!" Good to see Deaudre Perry out on the field.

The O line will not be an area of concern. We have some serious studs in the trenches. John Lanning looked pretty good doing the shot gun snaps.

Teddy Piepkow picked off Omar during 7 on 7 drills and the D looked solid.

Timchenko needs a bit of work...the kid has a pretty strong leg but his accuracy was off a bit. Fry looked solid punting.

All in all, good practice to get things rolling! I AM READY FOR FALCON FOOTBALL!!!!!

FF & BGFan,
Thanks for hangin with us! Even though Fricker's sucked, still was a good time hangin at the Doyt. I don't think we'll be going to Fricker's again. :x

Myles for now. :D

Fricker's always sucks...shoulda went to Myles ;)

As to the football, thanks for the report. I'm especially excited to see Deaudre back for sure, and the addition of Van Johnson to the secondary. Van made a couple nice plays in the spring game, and it looks as though we're FINALLY putting one of our top notch athletes on defense, where we really need the help.

I'm not worried about the OL at all. We've got some great size up front, and the guys were all highly touted out of HS. On top of that they have all played at various points last season...the beauty of our blowouts is getting the backups the PT.

Yeah, but they were only recruited by MAC schools, so they suck. At least that's what a Wisconsin birdie told me....

Thanks for the report Freak! I don't know if I'll have time to actually swing by practice at the end of this week, but I'm sure I'll catch a little bit from the 14th fairway at Creason!

Im relieved to hear that Omar's head grew back after JP Bekesiak ripped it off in BG's loss to the Rockets. :o

Freak:

Thanks for the report.

It's exciting to here some positive news about our DBs. If Johnson steps up and Perry returns, we have the makings for some good things back there. I know Deaudre appears to get confused in coverage at times, but I like him back there at safety. He has the instincts of a playmaker.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

While doing all my laundry getting ready to move back to school, I dug through my hamper and my football jersey and hockey jersey were sitting on top of each other. Couldn't wipe the smile off my face for 5 minutes.

Freak, good stuff. I am really confident heading into this season. I think the offense is going to be rediculously good. It may not show up in statistics but I think the offense will be much more talented and efficient. The games where it will be noticable will be the tough games like Wisky, Boise, Miami, and Toledo. I also have a strange confidence in the defense. I am sure that in part it is due to me being a greatly optimistic person, but I really like the look of our defensive lineup. I am worried about our linebackers the most. I think the secondary will be a pleasant surprise. Can't wait to find out if I am wrong.

I'm not quite sure when all of the practices are or if they are even all open to the public. What you may want to catch however are the public scrimmages on Saturday, August 13 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, August 20 at 4 p.m.
