But the Bookstore can't compete cost wise or selection wise with SBX. The Bookstore strives on accessibility.

regarding the initial question, i was there today and picked up a jersey myself. the largest they had with a 4 on it was a medium (which i picked up... though there were 2 others i believe). they are currently waiting on an order of jerseys to come in and they should be there ANY day now (they expected them by now). they will have orange ones as well as WHITE jerseys. so i'd say give them a call in the next day or two to see if the order has come yet.

I'm sure SBX sees it as a giant government monopoly using its power to give its own bookstore an advantage.

I'm not taking sides on this though.

I prefer SBX for two reasons:

1. Parking is much better.
2. They seem to have more sports stuff.

I agree SF...the Sports stuff at SBX i smuch better than the U bookstore. I really hope the U bookstore gets it in gear with the sports stuff.

And about Steve Donnelly....was he the guy that worked in the back of SBX? Kind of short, gray hair? I remember him from the late 80's....Why was he fired?

They had to fire one manager when they closed the other store, and I believe Steve had been there the longest and probably making more money, plus his wife did a lot of the ordering and display stuff for them.
I would prefer to see the University bookstore do well, and keep the profits in BG and on campus than going out of town to SBX hqs!! Maybe we should concentrate on letting them know what we want and need, but I really think they are doing a good job with the new store.

The bookstore does a very good job on both of these fronts.

PLUS - the University Bookstore gives money back to the students in the way of book scholarships.

Bookstore Engaged Scholarship Programs

University Bookstore Support for Student Engagement

The University Bookstore's relocation to the renovated and expanded Bowen-Thompson Student Union in the Spring of 2002 has been a real success story. The Bookstore's performance clearly validates President Ribeau's decision, just prior to the move, to keep the Bookstore under university management. It is also a tribute to the fine job being done by the Bookstore's leadership team as well as all of the Bookstore's full-time and part-time employees.

With this success, it is appropriate for the Bookstore to give back to its "customers" by providing modest support for scholarship and grant programs that will enrich the educational experience of our undergraduate and graduate students while, in many cases, enhancing their opportunities for engagement with external communities both locally and beyond the confines of Northwest Ohio.

The University Bookstore Scholarship programs will provide funding each year on many academic levels:

For Graduate Student Research Grants or travel awards, to help subsidize participation in academic conferences, meetings and performances or the costs of conducting scholarly research;

Bookstore Engagement Scholarships will be provided to 25 undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need, to support scholarship and community service/engagement projects in partnership with faculty with faculty mentors and outside community organizations;

Faculty funding in support of the student projects associated with the Engagement Scholarships;

A Community Engagement Book Loan Program providing funding to 50 incoming first year BGSU students from selected area high schools per academic year to cover the costs of all required course materials on a "loan" basis.

The initial funding for the Bookstore Engaged Scholarship Programs will be through creation of a substantial endowment fund, from which the interest will partially fund programs. Bookstore operating funds will also be devoted directly to funding the scholarship programs.

Additionally, provided the bookstore continues to maintain expected income levels, funds will be contributed annually to the established Bookstore Scholarship endowment fund, to increase the ability to fund future scholarship programs.

It is also anticipated that University Bookstore staff will also be involved with a number of the community engagement projects.

How many scholarships did SBX award to BGSU students last year?

I respect your views and all, but you can't honestly tell me that the University bookstore has as much stock and variety as SBX. Additionally, the book prices at SBX are exponentially less and I've had great success in getting a lot more money back on buy-back.

Perhaps rather than giving a select few scholarships, maybe make the cost of books a little more reasonable?

Despite this all, I still do support the bookstore and pretty much every winter I ransack it for last minute X-Mas gifts on my way down I-75.

Just my $.02.

Never said I did. I stated they do have a nice selection and can compete cost wise - both of which are true.

For those that would like to see specific items in the bookstore, contact Yvonne Stoner < [email protected] >.

Haven't been to SBX in a long, long time.

However, there's a very strong possibility that Noah & I will make that our stop during our annual visit.

The reason? Two words: American Express. SBX accepts it, University bookstore doesn't. AMEX is the official card of the Smith family and I'm constantly frustrated by merchants that don't accept it.
