5. Josh Harris is losing ground
Again, this one come as a surprise to anyone tuned into the website and radio show. Harris has been overthrowing receivers badly, and Charlie Frye has inserted himself into the competition at back-up based on his performance last Saturday night. This isn't over by a long shot, but we've been consistently saying that Harris, while athletic, has underwhelmed at both the team's mini-camp and training camp.

Josh harris blurb (not good)

Interesting that if you go to their "Unofficial' depth chart they have Johnson as the #2...just going by everything I have read that just doesn't jive.
I am not holding my breath on Harris even making the team, but I am just going to wait to see how things go. Hopefully things will work out for the best.
If Eric Crouch is still getting shots in the NFL, Harris has a while to go before his road ends.

from an article on http://www.clevelandbrowns.com right now...
The most notable item to come from the chart is the declaration of a second quarterback. Doug Johnson is on the second team, while rookie Charlie Frye is listed as third team.
Josh Harris, who had been taking most of the reps with the second team during the first two weeks of camp, was placed onto the fourth team.

As you might recall, in BIG games (first half of the motor city bowl and the miami games), Josh consistantly over-threw receivers. While I'm hoping Josh does well, I'm concerned this will plague him throughout his career.
The negative side of me isn't suprised, the optimistic side says he can overcome this!

I still think Josh has the heart & the moxie that you want in a starting NFL QB, but I'm not sure if he'll ever have the accuracy to be a big time starter
I continue to hear that he's overthrowing and missing guys, and that was clearly his biggest issue leaving school. His best season he was at 64%, but it was his only year > 60%. One of the things you heard from scouts was that he struggled with his accuracy down the field.
Conversely Charlie Frye was almost a 64% CAREER passer in college.
I'm hoping the best for Josh, but its sounding grim. I know most Browns fans want him to beat out Johnson, but it sounds like he's really been struggling recently

Good point...I must say, when you post on this site, you must bring you grammatical “A-game,” or a dozen English majors will descend upon you like the great plagues of Egypt! I think spell-check, instant messenger, email, and especially PowerPoint have all made us lazy writers…I know it’s made me one…1987alum wrote:Actually, I'd say that time IS a luxury, one that Josh can not afford.kdog27 wrote:Time is not exactly a luxurymk455 wrote:give him time

Not all is lost yet, naysayers (see below). My guess is Crennel wants to figure out as soon as possible if Johnson is worth keeping around, so why not send him in the first preseason game against better live competition to see if Johnson is worth having around. Then, after this game you can re-evaluate whether Johnson is a pratical #2 or if Harris or Frye can hold down the backup duties.

Crennel says there’s a chance Charlie Frye or Josh Harris could become Trent Dilfer’s top backup. On the first depth chart, young veteran Doug Johnson is listed at No. 2, with Frye at No. 3 and Harris at No. 4.

Yeah no kidding. You can hurt people's feelings around here for typos and grammatical errors. Of course I just corrected someone for spelling Gregg Brandon without two G's at the end so I am no better.CapitalFalcon wrote: Good point...I must say, when you post on this site, you must bring you grammatical “A-game,” or a dozen English majors will descend upon you like the great plagues of Egypt!
