Based on my experience at the 2003 game, I will totally agree with this statement. Their students were rude, drunk and just plain vulgar. It was really, really sad to see. I can't fault them for being pumped because we got our asses handed to us, but chanting "BG-STD" is just stupid and uncalled for.billchase2 wrote:the fans at Miami are @$$holes...
The best fans I have seen by FAR, as others have said, were Oklahoma fans. I remember walking to the stadium with my BG flag proudly draped around my shoulders ready to take just as much and even more BS as I took at OSU the year before. I was amazed when people just randomly started saying "Howdy! Welcome!" I then walked over to the alumni tent by the pond next to the stadium. As I was standing there talking to a friend I noticed a Sooner fan walking towards us from the sidewalk (he literally went at least 1000 ft. out of his way). I was thinking "Oh no, here it comes." I smiled at him as he walked up and he put his hand out and said: "I just wanted to thank ya'll from coming." I talked to him for about five minutes and he kept asking if I and my friends were having a good time, where we were staying, telling us the cool places to go in Norman, etc. I was blown away. During and after the game people kept coming up to me wanting to know more about BG and telling me that they hadn't been scared like that in over two years. At least 10 Sooner fans told me that they had become instant Falcon fans, too. I am now a big Sooner fan because of this experience. I have never had and probably never will have more respect for a group of fans anywhere.
I will add that Memphis fans are pulling a close second. A lot more people experienced the GMAC Bowl than the Sooner game, so I won't elaborate here. That whole weekend was such a great, great experience. As much as I hope we get to a BCS bowl this year, I would be just as happy to be in Mobile again. Outside of the Rose Bowl experience, I can't imagine a better all around "bowl experience" than that which mobile provides. The parade alone is worth it.

be
best were Duke, but that was because they only have like 5 of them, and 3 of them were my family...other than that I'd say the Florida State fans I met when I was down there were pretty cool, of course if we were winning by 33, we would be pretty nice too. The worst were vt and NCSU (not sure if you guys heard about it, but there was a drive-by after the last time we played at NCSU during a post game tailgate

The worst was probably Ohio State in 2003. A really obnoxious dude sat right behind us. Later, walking back to my friend's house, students were shouting out of their houses how Bowling Green sucked, yada yada (They must not have seen the score).
Buffalo in 2000 also sucked -- mostly because I got to see fans taunting our players as they walked off, telling them they were losers, Bowling Green sucks, etc. (Gee, Buffalo wins its first game in almost two years, and suddenly *we* sucked?)
I thought the Memphis fans I met at the GMAC bowl were pretty darned cool. Very pleasant, interested in our program, respectful.
Only issue at all was... I guess I can tell this story now:
The night before the game, a friend of a friend knew the people laying out the catering table for the Memphis coaching staff in their hotel. We were there in our BG gear, hobbnobbing with some big Memphis administrators, groupies, boosters, assistant coaches, etc. It was all very pleasant.
But one guy wasn't happy. He keept looking at our BG stuff and glowering.
Basketball came up. When when one of the people I was with said something about about "Coach Calimari," this guy flipped his lid. He said we being disrespectful, questioned whether we were anti-Italian (no, just ignorant of the coach's name), all this stuff. So, at that point, we decided it was best to leave and find the Mardi Gras parade.
That aside -- and how could we complain about that anyway? -- Memphis people were all very gracious and cool.
Alabama fans were decent too back in 1996.
Maybe it's a cultural thing.

You should have said, "Sorry. Slip of the tongue. I should have said, 'coach fried squid'."

I think "liar" or "cheating bastard" would have been appropriate as well.

Pacifism is objectively pro-fascist. That is elementary common sense. If you hamper the war effor of one side, you automatically help out that of the other. George Orwell
I'd go with "underachieving, cheating bastard." The guy made it to one Final Four riding a player who couldn't get admitted at any Big East schools and was the highest paid player in the tournament. Then, he went to the Nets and had predictable levels of success. Now, despite an enormous influx of resources into his program and an ACC-sized salary, he's a perennial favorite to take his team all the way in the NIT.
If he tried to run his schtick at, say, UVA, he'd be gone in three years.

Western is the WORST
WMU is by far the worst. The best? Alabama in Birmingham believe it or not. The good ole boys even offered us mixers since they felt sorry for us drinking vodka and squirt (actually it's not that bad). We were in a grass field/lot next to the stadium surrounded by "the roll tide crowd". They got the "roll" right. roll along... Orlando for the UCF game was good too. I must add that I have never had any problems in Columbus (3 games).tekekini wrote:Western Michigan the worst...by far.
when we were there Suishams last year what was that '01? After the game we were taunted and threatened and their fans were throwing stuff at our players as they walked back toward the locker room...thats the same year karry campbell called the timeouts even though western had the ball with just a few seconds left they were all pissed cos they thought we were dragging it out...
then last year my roomate had beer thrown on him.
the nicest fans was CMU or Akron (the first game we really got a glimpse of cole due to injureis to suisham and harris in the game and he busted off that nice TD run dragging 2 or 3 guys into the end zone) for the games i have been too...i didnt go to Oklahoma..

My bud Mark and I made the 4 hour trip, one way, for that game. WMU fans aren't the greatest but I think they had a right to be po'ed after Meyer called the timeouts with 10 seconds left. No way BG could win the game. A couple aholes walked by shouting, very loudly, "F&*K BG!!!!" Real classy.tekekini wrote:Western Michigan the worst...by far.

So you've been treated well at CMU? I need to find out where you sat. We've had nothing but crap thrown our way each time up there.
Oklahoma fans sound excellent!!
SF,
There will be NO "BG sux" or "Go back to Ohio you losers" chants coming from the Buffalo fans in 2005. That was the worst game I've ever been to as a BG fan. My lowest point.

Let me see if I got this straight, since no one treated you like crap at the Glass bowl, that must mean that UT's students are too dumb to start anything?TG1996 wrote:I think UT's students are too dumb to start anything. The worst treatment I've ever recieved was at... surprise surprise, Bowling Green. Bowling Green has some of the worst fans in the MAC. In 03, I thought that maybe my expierence would not be so bad because I was bringing my wife with me to the game(the first road trip I was ever able to talk her into), instead of the whole "just the guys" type thing. Boy was I off, my wife was appalled by the behavior of the fans that day, she asked "is it like this everywhere you go?", my answer NO. No where in the MAC are the fans as bad as the ones in BG. I suppose that maybe that statement might be a little unfair, as I have not yet been to Akron, Kent St, or Buffalo.
The best fans are the fans at EMU, I have never had a negative expierence up there. The fans down in Oxford deserve an honorable mention. My buddy and I were given tickets to the game by some Miami fans when we were walking up to the stadium(very cool). Then at halftime when I was waiting in line at the concession stand, a very hot Miami chick came up to me in line and gave me a food voucher(that they apparently give to the season ticketholders I believe) for the concession stand, because she was leaving early. I did run into some acorns that night, but I coul;dnt remember what they said, but I do remember the cool and nice Miami fans I ran into, and they are the ones that left the lasting impression on me.
*After thinking about it, I decided to edit my post a bit. I realize that not EVERY fan in BG acts like a moron, it does seem like you guys have a couple of cool cats on here(RUIT, Alum87, Freak). The Freak I actually met last year, we chatted for a few minutes, he was a pretty cool. So, I edited out some of the more inflammatory remarks because I do realize that you guys do have some decent birds amongst you.
2005 GMAC Bowl champs!
For CMU, we sat front row on the goal line closed stadium side, on the BG sideline. Meyer shook our hands before game started..we eventually went into the CMU student section after talking to some fans at halftime. no one gave us any crap.Falconfreak90 wrote:My bud Mark and I made the 4 hour trip, one way, for that game. Re: You guys are unfalconbelievable
Okay, maybe it was a bad choice of words, and I was pleased that we didn't get any of the horrid treatment I've heard about other receiving at whatever school they got "abused" at. I was just shocked that after a half of listening to all the chants and whatever we threw out, that was the best they came up with. Aside from a few nimrods in the parking lot as we pulled up (and potentially one tearing an outside mirror off a friend's car), I was surprised with how tame UT fans were that night.TJRocket wrote:Let me see if I got this straight, since no one treated you like crap at the Glass bowl, that must mean that UT's students are too dumb to start anything?
