Many of you will be happy to hear that there are only six nugeye fliccs
which brings the total to 22 of us-- five less than last year. A lot of nugeyes didn't show up all throughout the band; only 102 arrived altogether, I believe. But that's not altogether a bad thing, as it makes the ratio of nugeyes to vets that much smaller. So the band will probably be about the same size as last year.
They won't officially tell us the shows yet, other than the first "Broadway Now" one. So nothing to report there.
Seems like nugeyes all over the field are learning their fundamentals pretty quickly-- possibly has something to do with that nugeye-to-vet ratio. Whatever the cause, they had us move on to teaching them glide-stepping this morning, which is ahead of the plan.
The weather is perfect for marching! And I LOVE BAND!

*added later in the afternoon* I would just like to brag that my fliccs were the FIRST section to get the chair-step drill completely on the field WITH playing.

But all you do is blow through a little high pitched stick, what's so hard about that

So when do the vets scare the crap out of the neuguys by marching right at them. That was my favorite part of the week. I went for a bike ride today and I way the Illinois State University marching band on the main field so of course I had to stop and watch for a bit. They were learning pre-game. It was interesting, but made me miss our own FMB as well. Saxy, if pre-game isn't clean when I am back for homecomming I am holding you personally responsible...
You will pay if I don't like what I see.

Do you mean the march over, when the vets meet the nugeyes for the first time?

It was on Tuesday afternoon. It was all right, but sadly the nugeyes were at attention.... facing the other direction. Soooo they didn't see us. But hey, we yelled loud. And our chairs were rusty, so whatever they imagined was probably more impressive than reality.
And we cheered them like whoa when they did their chairstep drill for us.
Definitely gives ya goosebumps every year, even when it's 95 degrees. It's one of those "this is totally worth it" moments.

I have to agree Flicc. That was always one of two favorite Fundies Week moments. The other was at the end of the last indoor rehearsal. I won't say too much since there might be 'Nugeye ears' reading this...FliccGirl wrote:Definitely gives ya goosebumps every year, even when it's 95 degrees. i have to agree too...tonight was amazing. our new guys didn't read their handbooks...oh well. i almost cried during rehearsal because i knew what was coming and it was just nostalgic to be there doing it instead of watching like last year...but then it was weird because mr. nowlin wasn't there...and he wrote like all of our music....which we have shows now...speaking of.goofyeuph wrote:I have to agree Flicc. We're doing Broadway NOW, Incredibles, Hip Hop, and Video Games...should be interesting. The Sivill-Nowling duo are putting their heads together for the Incredibles and Video Game shows...so those will be AMAZING...apparently the Incredibles music is hard...and w/Jason writing drill, it will be even harder. Also the video game show will supposedly include some good video game visuals...i can't wait!! so there ya go...enjoy!
What a productive week...couldn't have asked for anything better. Got all the uniforms fitted in TWO days, put half of pregame on the field already, and had a fantastic night w/the newbie "initiation"...I LOVE BAND!!!!

I friggin LOVE the Incredibles music. Incredibles has a bunch of mixed meter stuff in 10/8 (probably written 6/8 2/4), and triple-duple stuff. Very intense, in your face....The composer, ironically, had never done film music before the incredibles...he wrote for Video Games.SaxyGirl85 wrote: We're doing Broadway NOW, Incredibles, Hip Hop, and Video Games...should be interesting.
