Oh, Browns recovered a fumble, but it looks like Frye will be in. Going to commercial, Frye was on the sideline and pointed at Harris like "You going in" and Josh pointed back at him as to say "No, it's you." If Harris doesn't play, I would expect to see him on the lists of cuts this week.
Doesn't look good for Harris

Crennel sent Frye back into the game with about 7 mins remaining. Only Dilfer and Frye have played. The Lions have the ball back with about 3 mins to play.

UMMMM, couldn't you say the same thing for Harris? And fwiw, Frye came in at the end of the first half to run the two minute drill. So why not give Harris a shot in the fourth quarter? When you don't get to play in a preseason game, it aint good. Especially when one of the guys ahead of you is hurt and the coach still decides to not give you a chance.

We knew comming into the season that Harris wouldn't get as much playing time as Frye almost no matter what. There is a differnce between being down in the 2nd quarter and being down in the 4th, they wanted to win the game, and they thought Frye would be the better guy to do it with so they kept him in. Like I said, comming into the season, we knew Frye was going to get more PT, so Crennel wanted to get him more in game expirence at the end. It may be bad not to get PT in a pre-season game, but it was all situational. Why else would they put Edwards in at the end? to win the game.

I gotta agree with WH on this one. Quarterbacks who are fighting for a roster spot, and are healthy, but don't get preseason PT don't make the team. It's a simple hard fact which is all the more apparent when looking at J5's practice performance over the last couple weeks. (un)fortunately, it looks like Josh will have to try to latch on to another team or play in a different league (family allowing) to prove himself.

MACMAN
NEw team, new O , new QBS all of them, the guys at the top of the list have need,....real need to take the most reps...i bet J5 ends up on the PS and after or by game 3 is 3 man on the O after dilfer is hurt....they guys to old and his durability has been questioned for years...he doesnot have what it takes to be a starter...a teacher yes..starter no.
J5 will land squarly on his feet.

Josh is still eligible for the practice squad, and it looks as though that's where he's destined. They expanded the practice squad this year to either 7 or 10 players, not sure which (used to be 5). I see no reason to believe they won't keep him there, but it doesn't look as though he'll make the final roster.
It is definitely not a good sign for him that he didn't play a single snap today. I know they want to get Frye the reps, but man, he played 2 & half quarters. He looked okay, but not as good as last week. It's starting to look like Frye is the QB of the future for the Brownies...he's really doing a lot to impress the staff, for sure.

Unfortunately, it's lookin that way, but I just thought the same thing about the practice squad. Any door to "keep the dream alive" is a good thing, and even if he's rough around the edges from a passing standpoint, I think his mobility is a valuable asset to have on any practice squad, not only with McNabb and Vick type QB's coming through the league (not knowing the full schedule, I can't think if the Browns face a mobile QB this year) but to have someone you could use as a scout QB/RB/WR and fill three potential spots with one guy is a plus. We all know he'll bust tail to do what he has to do, and unless Jacob is getting a teamma...errr...brother next summer, hopefully there's a spot for him in NFL Europe to work on the passing game.hammb wrote:Josh is still eligible for the practice squad, and it looks as though that's where he's destined. Unfortunately, it looks like the Browns may have 2 former MAC QBs make the roster with one named Josh but I think it will be Cribbs instead of Harris. He is the triple threat you describe and has value as a returner and wide out.TG1996 wrote:Unfortunately, it's lookin that way, but I just thought the same thing about the practice squad. My beloved Hamilton tiger-Cats of the underappreciated Canadian Football League need a guy just like Josh Harris. The pay is better than people think and lots of great QBs make a career "up there" -- e.g. the incomparable Damon Allen in his 20-something season playing for the Toronto Argonauts. And, of course, a few players decide to make the jump to the NFL.
The fast pace of the AFL is a great learning place for QBs. Many of those who have transitioned from the AFL to the NFL have actually said that they have less times to make their reads in the AFL. The game moves very fast, and is definitely a good place to go and get some PT; I think playing games in the AFL is much better experience for a QB than being on the practice squad for an NFL team...seriously they et almost no practice reps during the season on the practice squad.professorjackson wrote:My beloved Hamilton tiger-Cats of the underappreciated Canadian Football League need a guy just like Josh Harris.
