Hello BGSU fans

Post by Maureen_F »

Hi everyone, this is Maureen Fulton from the Toledo Blade. I'm covering BGSU sports this year. I grew up in the information age and realize now more than ever that message boards are a big outlet for sports fans, whether it's getting information, asking and answering questions, or discussing topics important week-to-week or of a general landscape.

Although I'm still doing it the old-fashioned way with paper and ink, I'm here to open the lines of communication with the Internet-savvy. If anyone has suggestions on stories they think should be covered by the Blade (and why), questions of any kind, or even complaints, let's hear 'em.

This isn't a one-time thing, either. I can also be reached any time at [email protected].

I've heard from a few of you and appreciated the comments. I grew up in Nebraska and so know what it is like to be passionate about college sports. I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

Cool. Welcome Maureen! :D
Your stories so far have been great, keep up the good work! (Especially for those of us out of town, The Bland's (...errr... Blade's) site is a great way to keep up with things in addition to the University site and the national media.)

Greetings Maureen,

It's great to see your name here. AZZ.com has been all over the fact that you were BGSU's new beat writer for this season. And we have enjoyed what we have seen thus far. Your articles have been linked to from AZZ on a number of occasions.

I, and others I'm sure, will be in contact to relay opinions and ideas, but never to complain. You'll quickly realize that no one ever complains on this messageboard. Anyways, welcome aboard and best of luck covering the Falcons this season.

Cheers,
Dan

Hey, wait just a minute here, did you not hear what Coach Amstutz has to say about Internet message boards???

Maureen, you may want to think twice about this move... ;-)

Welcome aboard Maureen. Glad to see you know where to check to find the true, hardcore Falcon Fans!

Off topic slightly, but has the Blade abandoned covering major league baseball? Does the sports editor realize the Indians are leading the wildcard? For the last month it seems all they do is reprint the AP story which I can read on-line like two minutes after the game is over. Just wish they would give the Tribe a little more attention.

So ends my rant. Have fun covering the Falcons this season!

Welcome to the best seat in the Falcon Fan house. (Well except for the FREAK'S basement.)

We are looking forward to a fresh look at Falcon Sports! As has been stated, it's a great year to be here. You should find a few things about which to write.

Oh, and by the way. We're not all guys. There are some of "us girls" in this little underground network...

But we like the guys!

I thought I should jump in the love fest too. I really enjoy your articles. They are very well written and to the point. Also I like that you came to the site looking for input. Many journalists like to say they want to avoid messageboards or they sign in under false screen names. It's nice to see that you are your own person and are willing to check different outlets.
Keep up the excellent work on the beat.

What she said!! This "she" welcomes you to AZZ also!!! I have enjoyed your articles, so keep up the great work!!

If you hang out here enough, you will see who the hardcore fans are from BG. .....so here's a story idea.....feature the passionate AZZ crowd, especially Grant, who started the board and our beloved Freak!!! You don't get any more hardcore than him!!! He has Falconitis to the MAX! I mean really, the guy drives from AKRON to see a PRACTICE!!!! (We love you, Freak!!). Join us at the AZZ tent at the Ohio game!!!!!

And again, Welcome to AZZ and keep up the great work!!

(How many minutes 'til the kickoff, Freak????)

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Man the baseball season has been over since May when Cincinnati decided to look at next year.

How come no one has blasted Maureen for her "Internet-savvy" comment but yet blasted Coach Brandon for his "Intenet guru's" comment?

Welcome Maureen. I look forward to reading your articles.

you know it would be nice if every week you ran an article on the prejudice of the BCS system and how we should either return to a bowl match up system, or move to an all inclusive playoff system where by confrence winners were granted a shot a true National Championship...you know..the kind decieded by the teams on the field.
and ran it over and over and over and over and over...then included bits about the number ncaa violations by BCS schools vs non bcs schools, crimes comitte by BCS players and non BCs players...
BRING DOWN the BCS

Wellcome and sorry for my rant..but I do believe the media is in part responsible for the current lack of a National Champion in College football. The media enables the BCS and rarely attacks the system...More attacks on the BCS please...it is corrupt..there is a big story in it...you just have to find it
