I said way back in the sping that this game hinges on one thing: will the young Wisconsin secondary be able to slow down BG's potent passing attack? If BG goes up by a couple of scores, the Badgers are basically toast. Irregardless [sic] of how good they think their running game is, they do not have the QB to come back from a couple of quarters down.
But if the Badger defense can get some stops(*cough*yellow flag*cough*), then their offense will be able to run all day long.
It will be a close game and BG must overcome quite a bit to win this game.
In closing, remember when it comes to playing OOC with Wisky, IT'S THE OFFICIATING, STUPID!

And you are right about that, the officials will be huge but at least we will have pictures to look at of all the holds

LOL
You guys are blaming the officials already?!?!?
It should be a good game. The Badgers' passing weakness has only been a problem when there is good coverage downfield. As your DC surely has figured out already, Stocco is NO THREAT to run. He is the first Badger QB I have watched in 20 plus years who can't even be trusted on the draw. You get him out of the pocket, and he is in trouble much of the time. He is shifty, but isn't going to outrun anybody.
You guys will get your points, that's for sure. If you can't stop the run, though, it's over. If you can stop the run enough to force more passing than the Badgers want to do, you will still have to pressure the QB. I haven't seen much comment on this aspect of the game.
How are your front 5-6 (you won't be able to just rely on 4) at putting pressure? The Badger line is inexperienced. Raiola is overrated, and Thomas is their only proven stud. Do you guys ever delay blitz?

Re: LOL
Let me preface this post by saying you will see the words "we" or "our" many times in my writing referring to the team. I realize I am not a part of the team but am too lazy to refer to them in other terms. Deal with it.Myles Longer wrote:You guys are blaming the officials already?!?!?

I agree on the ref blaming. Usually sour grapes from the loser IMO.
FWIW, Our D was consistently bad at pressuring the QB last year. That was one of my major knocks on TB -- he wasn't nearly aggressive enough for me. We played a bend but don't break style of defense and hoped to get a lot of turnovers. I think Wisconsin fans will notice our players trying to strip the ball as opposed to going for the big hit more than other big ten teams. Unfortunately this may be the reason our tackling has bee sub-par in general.
The wild card in this game is the presence of Lovett (our new DC). I'm incredibly anxious to see what kind of things he has in store as far as play calling. I'm hoping we see more blitzes in the hopes of creating more pressure and I assume we'll be playing 8 or 9 in the box until Stocco shows he can be a weapon.
I think you guys will be able to run the ball with some success, but if Stocco can't hit a few big pass plays, We will outscore you. I understand you guys have a lot of highly regarded guys on defense but until I see them play D-1 football at a high level, I can't think of them as dominant.
I also believe that Calhoun could be a very good runner. But he hasn't played a game in a long time and I think it will take him some time to reacclimate himself to game situations. Combine that with our D's propensity for creating turnovers and I think you may see him lay the ball down a couple times. I think 2 is the magic number. If we can force 2 turnovers, I think we win (assuming our ball security remains stellar).
Bottom line -- I think the talent gap between these two teams is very small. I'm looking forward to a very good game that should be decided late in the 4th. I'm leaving for Wisconsin in 4 days!

Re: LOL
That was more of humor on my part because the officials were needed to save the Badgers' collective @ss against an average Akron team.Myles Longer wrote:You guys are blaming the officials already?!?!?

Nice try Right up
That was a great game in which the zebras had nothing to do with the outcome. Frye was awesome. The game turned on a 4th Qtr. stop of the Zips at the one followed up with a 99 yard bomb to Lee Evans. Make up anything you want though.
Northern would have been a much better example, as NIU put almost 500 yards on the sheet, and the Badgers were lucky to escape with a W.
Here's an account of the game.

Will you give me 20-1 odds that the Badgers intercept Omar TWICE next week? Should be easy money right?

For Chrissakes, don't get into ref blaming already. We don't want to sound like Miami fans after they play Marshall.
Refs had nothing to do with the Badgers beating Goodyear U two years ago. More like Akron's d couldn't defend a long out route to Lee Evans.
Myles is right, BTW. A better example would have been the UNI game from 2002, but that wasn't a "gift" either.

For those that don't know it is typical in college football for the VISITING conference to provide the refs. We had MAC officials in both Purdue & OSU, and I would imagine many of our other road OOC games.
The officiating may suck in those games, but its MAC officials that are doing the sucking, and not Big10 officials.
