I heard Paul Krebs speak yesterday....

A place to reminisce about the past or talk about the future of BGSU and Bowling Green.

I heard Paul Krebs speak yesterday....

Post by transfer2BGSU »

...and he had some interesting things to say.

He started out by mentioning the numerous newspapers and magazines that have featured BGSU and of those still coming in (in Admissions, we love that free publicity). He also mentioned another item or two....

SEBO CENTER
* Bids came in a little higher than expected. We went back to the architect and looked at what could we redesign or see what other materials we could use. It has gone back out to bid and they should be back within the next two weeks.
* Groundbreaking will be before the end of the football season
* Expected cost is $9 million. $5 million has been raised to date.

CONVOCATION/ANDERSON ARENA STUDY
* Now underway
* This is a UNIVERSITY initiative, not an athletic one (covers athletics, concerts, graduation, convocation, etc...)
* Hope information is available in October to be presented to the Board of Trustees for action

ICE RINK STUDY
* Also underway, no time-table given for completion (and we didn't ask)

TRACK
* Must be replaced. The storm that ripped through BG a few years ago that damaged the SRC, PFH, and the Airport also lifted the track off its foundation and set it back down. The track was destroyed.

TENNIS COURTS
* This is a part of the Ice Rink Study
* The condition of the courts is poor (so poor that the OHSAA has moved the regionals from BGSU because the courts are dangerous, but yet our women's team plays continue to play their matches on the courts)
* The courts may be relocated (again, depending upon the study) across Mercer

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL PROJECT
* As has been mentioned in other threads, the Baseball and Softball teams have no locker rooms. Players change wherever. We're going to fix that and build a locker room complex between the two fields (sorry Hammb). Estimate price tag is $1 million.

OFFICE OF STUDENT ATHLETE SERVICES
* Moving into University Hall - gives them plenty of space and classrooms for study tables
* Knows that Volleyball, Women's Hoops, and the men's team will be fighting for the space that opens up on 2nd floor of Memorial Hall

WISCONSIN FOOTBALL GAME IN CLEVELAND
* Looking at being able to incorporate the game into a great recruiting opportunity for the UNIVERSITY. Maybe we can give away some tickets to NE Ohio high schools (working within the framework of NCAA rules)
* Great opportunity for BGSU and hopefully we will be able to do some more of these type ventures

SUCCESS OF OUR STUDENT ATHLETES
* 13 teams had a team GPA of 3.00 or higher
* Accumulative GPA of all BGSU student-athletes 2.93 last year

MISCELLANEOUS
* Our facilities are lacking behind the rest of the conference and we are going to be focused on that part of the equation in the future. Our first priority was to recruit the best student-athletes and raise the athletic programs back up to prominence. Now we need to give those student-athletes the facilities so we can maintain the quality of our athletic programs.

How are we going to fund all of this?
PRIVATE money. No state funds are going to be used. So get out those checkbooks, start saving that loose change, and be prepared to open that wallet. It's going to be you, me, and the rest of the Falcon faithful that are going to need to step up to the plate and help make things happen.

Krebs may be the best thing that happened to BGSU athletics. We should all be thankful that he didn't go to OSU.

Agree 100%...Mr. Krebs has been great for the University, let alone what he has done for the athletic program. We can only hope he sticks around for many more years.
