THE REBIRTH

Post by TG1996 »

With 2 days and 9 minutes left until kickoff of a new season, BGSUSports.com has gotten a severe restructuring.

Same address, same content (once I get it all swapped over), but a whole lot of fun new toys to play with!

Lemme know what you think!

It's a lot better. I find the menus a little confusing, but maybe I'll get used to it.

The random history element is a very, very nice touch. And the "photo" of Doyt standing next to Frieda? Priceless.

Big complaint: How could you not include Bernie Casey in your of greatest Falcons ever?

(Or, more I think about it, Brian McClure?)

Looking good. The design looks a million times better.

I think that's Freddie next to Doyt.

I find it fascinating that Mark Szlachick is still leading that poll!! ;-)

Looks great, and far more manageable/updateable I'm guessing!! Nice job!

I didn't like Bernie Casey in "Under Siege", and Brian McClure has bad hair.

Actually, I just threw out five names, I meant to change that poll before I released anything, but I also wanted to release it before Madison.

I love the Today in History (it likely will actually be "this date in history" when I get enough data in the system and/or we're in-season. August is a bit of a down period for BG athletic history), the polls and a couple of the other features (it really *is* easier to update and manage), but I agree that the menus are a little cumbersome. There was a better way to do that, but it took away the search functionality in the top of the page.

Now that I have a system/template that makes it easier to throw in updates, I hope to let it take off. The old system was fun, because it was "mine", but it was also tedious and led to me handling hundreds of files and manually linking them. This is much easier and should make for a more robust site.

Thanks for the comments so far, guys! :D

Some Content for the Site

Post by bgsufan1970 »

Here is some fodder to bolster the history and tradition of BG football: the 1959 MAC Championship and National College Division Champion team had some talented players and coaches that went onto hold coaching positions at major programs.

Bernie Casey: fmr NFL player, moviestar, painter
Jack Harbaugh: fmr. head coach of D1-AA W. Kentucky, father of fmr NFL QB Jim Harbaugh
Dave McClain (late): fmr head coach U. of Wisconsin
Bill Mallory (asst. coach): fmr head coach of NIU, Indiana Univ.
Jim Young (asst. coach): fmr head coach of Army
Larry Smith: fmr. head coach of Arizona, Southern Cal
Ron Blackledge: fmr. head coach of Kent State, asst. coach for Pittsburgh, father of fmr. NFL QB Todd Blackledge

Miami O. may get a lot of notoriety about being the cradle of coaches but BG is a great place for people to get their start. Add Don Nehlen, Urban Meyer to the BG list and it is even more impressive.
