Josh Will Play Tonight

Driving home tonight listening to the Browns pre-game show, it was reported that Trent Dilfer will not play against the Bears tonight. Dilfer does not have an injury issue according to the report.

Romeo said earlier that all four quarterbacks (including Josh) would play in this game. With Dilfer out, Josh might see an extra series tonight. Plus, I think they really want to see Frye play against a first team defense. This could bode well for Josh, because if Frye does well, they might decide to cut Johnson. Meaning Josh would make the squad the third QB.

I didn't see the wide open guy downfield, but I tend to believe that Bernie knows what he is talking about. Shea was held a little on the pass down by the goal line, but it looked like Josh threw it way out of bounds anyways. If it was a good throw, he probably would have got the flag. No offense to Josh, but it doesn't look like he should make the team even as the 3rd QB. He had a nice run on the first play and a nice run in the first game, but he looks really uncomfortable back there, which I'm sure is quite natural given that he hasn't played in real football action for a couple years. Hopefully, he can get a lot of reps on the practice squad with the Browns and then get some much needed experience in NFL Europe next year.

should Josh switch positions? he sure seems athletic enough to be an NFL player, although he ain't the tallest guy...

No. What Josh showed tonight is that once he gets in the game for more than a single series he can settle down and be very dangerous throwing on the rollout. And, if there is nothing there passing, he has the legs to take off and pick up meaningful yardage.

Josh played almost the entire 2nd half and he was the only QB other than Frye to play. Looks like a good sign to me, and it looks even better because he mad noticeable progress as the game went on.

Imagine if he had gotten consistent PT this preseason...

This is what I imagined: That the coach had made up his mind well in advance of the game that Harris is the quarterback to be cut. But he likes Josh, and it was the last preseason game.

So he told Josh he could play most of the second half... and who knows, maybe another team will like what they saw.

It sounds like Josh may have gotten more comfortable out there. But I saw the first two or three series, and that wasn't the case at that point.

I think Frye has firmly planted himself as the #2 behind Dilfer. There is really no reason to keep Johnson over Harris. I would expect them both to be released and josh signed to the practice squad again.

Another possibility is that they keep only Dilfer and Frye, but also hang onto Cribbs who could serve as an emergency QB.

I would expect that Cleveland will keep him on the practice squad if he doesn't get picked up by another team after the cut day. He did definitely improve through the course of the game, but he still looks unsure of himself and skittish in the pocket. I really think that he needs to go to another league and actually PLAY to get better.

I wanted him to do well. I wanted him to score. I think he only had 5 or 6 different plays to run. He seemed very limited. They ran that one pitch play, like 8 times. I wish him the best. Some time in NFL Europe might be the best thing for his development.
