Why we are angry
We knew the idiot fans who predicted a 45-13 Wisconsin win were nuts. These were primarily idiots who didn't follow college football.
We are angry because this cuts to the core of all our insecurities. "they can't win against good competition" "they can't compete in the Big 10." And all the criticism about Omar and the offense being somehow a product of the system...
All these things are untrue. But it gives all our BCS critics more ammo against us.
After calming down a lot since yesterday, I feel that our season can still be a success. If we keep winning (and Wisconsin proves to be a better than mediocre big ten team) 450 yards and 5TDs is a fine start to a heisman campaign. We need to win the MAC. Yes our Utah dreams have been shattered, but c'mon, how likely was an undefeated season anyhow?
Life sucks this weekend, but we can now "Temple" Ball State up and down the field and get ready for smurf turf. Let's win a bunch in a row.

i agree, if we win out.. including MACC game, and Omar puts up bigger numbers than last year due to or D, its possible he gets invited IF we finish 11-1 and everyone has forgotten about the loss to Wiscy, but i dont see any of that taking place..
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
it's one loss. come on. This year's national champion could have one loss. miami had one loss in Ben's last year and they finished #15 or something I dont remember exactly what they finished but 15 sounds right.
We know Boise has problems, they arent going to be as big and dominating on the line. their runing back looked pretty good but its not wisconsin's O-line outweighing us 50-60 lbs on average.
Their secondary wasn't so hot, ours wasnt very tested. things will be fine.

Angry, no. Disappointed, more than I thought I would be.
The mid-majors (TCU excluded) we're horrendous, led by the MAC. Miami, Northern Illinois, and the rest of the MAC performed terribly, NIU wasn't terrible, but they were the exception in at least covering the spread (WMU too). But as someone else said we(the MAC) put the mid back in mid-major.
1st game of the season, prime espn game, not espn 2, and we were manhandled by the Wisconsin offense. How many passes did they throw, maybe a dozen? And we still couldn't stop a drive!?! I was hoping for an undefeated season, but truly believed our biggest challenge was coming at Boise, and they too were a huge disappointment.
I still haven't gotten over this loss. I know I need to, and will eventually, but this one has been tough.

Why? Because we didn't beat Oklahoma last year? Or because we weren't the "mid-major" team to beat a school that was breaking in alot more at the skill positions than anyone gave them credit for?CapitalFalcon wrote:Yeah...But doesn't it sting a little more seeing TCU beat Oklahoma????

Take your pick...We spend all off season getting psyched up. How we are going to run the table. How we are going to be this year's Utah. How no one can stop us. How this will be the year we don't have 3 losses. How we gave Oklahoma, or Purdue, or Wisconsin a good game. etc. etc. And now we are back to the same old status. I guess TCU may be this year's Utah.TG1996 wrote:Why? Because we didn't beat Oklahoma last year? All I know is that e keep talking about how people need to respect us more. How they need to do this or that...My question is, Why? What have we proven? We have proven that we can barely eak out a win against Purdue. That if you can't defend the pass, we will crush you, but that when it comes to a really tough competitor like Wisconsin, Miami, NIU, Toledo, Ohio State, or even a team with a winning season, we just don't have enough to get it done yet.
Until we run the table, until we smack a top tier Big 10, SEC, or PAC 10 team in the mouth, and do it consistently, Alberts, Herbstreit, and the rest are all going to pass us off as another mid-major team. And why shouldn't they? What has the team done to disprove them? Scored a s**t-load of points on some bad teams. What was the last big upset we had? Purdue in 03. I guess the point is that we can call all the commentators douchemonkeys and everything else we want, but respect is earned, not handed out just because we think BG deserves it. Name me one team we beat last year, other than Memphis, that had a winning season?

Why am I angry?
Because we started a defensive line with a combined total of 10 letters and lots of experience and they looked really bad. We laughed at UT last year when they gave up 63 points to Minny and Kansas. But they were starting four new guys on their d-line. We have a ton of experience up front. For them to be pushed around like they were makes me angry.

Well said. If you show up to a tailgate, I'll buy ya a beer.
We have yet to earn respect on a national level. Why? Because we haven't won big OOC games that we need to, and we haven't even dominated our conference.
TCU earned bookoo respect points this weekend by beating OU. Marshall earned their respect by destroying the MAC for a good stretch. Either way will earn you some respect in the media, but we have failed to do either up till this point.
I agree with all your points, CapitalFalcon, but I see no reason why TCU's win makes any difference, or why it should make it sting more. Apples and oranges, to me. Now if Miami(OH) or NIU would have won, it would sting. Just like 9/20/03, when every other MAC school was kicking around big schools, and although we played a hell of a game against OSU and shoulda/coulda/woulda won it, it got lost in the shuffle and we became "the little team that came oh so close to doing what the others did", and even the win over Purdue a couple weeks earlier got lost in the shuffle. The focus was on the huge day the rest of the MAC had, instead of the big OOC wins the MAC piled up. What TCU did was nice, but it really doesn't mean anything to me as far as our position in the "douchemonkey pecking order". Until they start backing it up, or running the table like Utah did, the one-hit wonder tag is still around, just like the one we're wearing. If they go undefeated and we finish with one loss, maybe it will piss me off a bit then, but I don't know about sting.
If anything, I think we're fortunate that ESPN and the like have come out of this game praising Omar they way they have. The bottom line all day Saturday showed stats for I think two or three games (more than just the score) in the top 25, and maybe five games tops. Not only was the BG/Wisky game one of them that got the extra stats, but they put Omar's line up first. In highlight shows, they talked about the great day Omar had. He was nominated for Cingular Player of the Week despite losing. All this pub came up, and if you didn't know the score, you wouldn't have known we lost. That gives us opportunities to right the ship. I don't know the numbers Garrett Wolfe or Josh Betts ended up with, but they're done in the spotlight until they're on ESPN again, even then, I don't see them getting the kind of attention Omar & Co. will be getting, especially at Boise State. Unless he falters at some point, or maybe if we lose another, ESPN, in my opinion, is going to go out of their way to show you what Omar did. I hate putting one man ahead of the team, but if that one man can keep our name in the spotlight, so be it.

Me too WH. I was most disappointed in the D lines play.Warthog wrote:Because we started a defensive line with a combined total of 10 letters and lots of experience and they looked really bad.
