Espn Heisman Watch

Post by FalconFanKM »

After the loss on Saturday I didn't think that this would help Omar's chances with the Heisman race. I knew that he put up some big numbers. In The Espn Heisman Watch, Omar has moved UP 2 spots. If he keeps throwing the ball like he has been, I expect him to be invited to NYC in December...

he better put up ungodly numbers...b/c the loss yesterday basically wiped out his chances. I'm as big of BG and Omar fan as you guys, but be realistic and understand that losing hurts Omar, even if he did great yesterday.

Where are you getting that from? I just visted ESPN.com and the votes hadn't been updated.

As Spielman pointed out on the broadcast, Omar really needed BG to win that game to get some Heisman respect. That was in the second quarter though. In retrospect, I think the intelligent voters would recognize that BG's defense was horrendous and they are responsible for that loss and not hold it against Omar in the Heisman voting.

Unfortunately the Heisman is no longer awarded to the best players in the country. It is awarded to the MVP of a top 5 team. I still think he has a chance to get to NY but he will have to have the same type of numbers in every game this season with minimal losses.

I mean that the list hasn't been updated... but Omar has moved up because you can see by the Arrow that is green next to Omar....

why does it say "Last Game Stats -- Jacobs was 29-of-50 for 440 yards with 4 TDs and 1 INT in the 56-42 loss to Wisconsin." on that heisman page. i thought he threw for 458 yards and 5 tds?

it also says that we host ball state next week. grr espn is dumb.

I don't see why the loss should hurt Omar's chances (which is not to say, of course, that it won't do so). It's not always the case that a QB on a winning team is better than one on a losing team. Right?

The argument will be made that he didn't win the big games. That's what will hurt. It obviously wasn't OJ's fault we lost but do you think the voters will care?

I have no question in my mind he is the MVP of college football. With the way BG's D looked BG needs him!!! However the heisman is not the MVP of college football, rather the "most outstanding player".

I think the voting is updated now. Omar is 7th. With a big week against Ball State almost a given, it is possible he could move up to as high as third after Vince Young flops in Columbus.

Hoping for Omar to win the heisman is like hoping for the MAC to get a second bid in basketball. All the evidence shows it should happen, but it ain't gonna. It will be cool if he gets invited to NY though. I think that's a very good possibility.

Warthog:

It's possible that Omar won't post gaudy numbers against Ball State. An early lead could lead to a lot of playing time for Turner.

Example: Last year against Ball State, Jacobs was 19 of 25 for 279 yards and 4 TDs. Pretty good numbers, but nothing like the stats from Wisconsin.

'87, Did you forget about our defense? Omar will have to play at least through the third quarter to make sure the win is secure.

I agree that there is a snowball's chance in hell of Omar actually winning, but seeing him actually get some attention is an accomplishment. I would be thrilled if he ended up in the top five, warranting a trip to the Downtown Athletic Club in NYC. 8)
