Falcons experience in Madison

Post by TaxidiaTom »

I'd be curious to hear how BG fans fared in Mad town. Battries in marshmellows, or beers and brats? I would think that the fact that the home team won would make the fans more congenial. So, how'd it go??

We have had a pretty good time. Lucky's before the game, people were very nice. Even following the game most were pretty nice. I'd rate this place pretty high as far as road trips go.

I can't get enough fried cheese curds mmmmmm

I had a good time other than the game. Most fans were respectful and courteous. There were your token douchebags but no more than anywhere else.

I must say that other than the game Madison proved to be a very cool place to watch a college football game. We ran into a BG alum who is now living in Madison who was nice enough to feed about 10 of us during the morning tailgate session. On our mile long walk to the stadium we were treated great for the most part. The highlight of the trip was seeing the Octabong in the front yard of a UW Frat house right accross from the stadium. The hose ran down from the roof (3 floors) and then separated into 8 distinct drinking spots for "bonging" beer. Lucky for us the kids were happy to let us take a turn!!
We didn't have any problems during or after the game either. All in all a funday (if you take out the 3nd and 3rd quarters of the game).

DAMN!! Lucky's...when I was a freshman I lived about 1/2 block from Lucky's. Brings back memories. Good to hear you had a good time. Well, a good time other than the game, although BG showed a lot of explosiveness on offense. The seeming ease with which they could score (primarily in the first half) made for a tense afternoon.

ya, other than the game it was ok. but while at the game, i mean come on, the cops suck. they were throwing people out for standing up. they said we had to sit down, we were not alowed to be up out of our seats, and when some people started standing back up, they were gone. when we asked why other people were able to stand and we were not, they just said "well they are students". but by the end we were all standing, how are they going to throw all of us out, and if they did, at that point of the game i didn't care if they did or not.

yea that was rediculous...Its a freaking football game, why not stand up? I hate douchebag fans like that. If you have a back problem or if you are really old, then you have an excuse, but other than that, gimme a break. I should have known what to expect when I walked in and saw all those red seats the stadium crew put up. the ones sitting behnd me (section U) were a bunch of wine and cheese fans too, they were convinced we paid the refs after the first score and that hold on their first play. and I hate organized profanity by the students in the chants, like "we're gonna kick the sh!t out of you, and you, and youandyouandyouandyou." I mean, show some class. Other than that, it wasn't that bad. Nothing thrown at me. walk to the stadium from the Randall lot (nice of a cop to give me the parking pass there) was cool, no one said anything before or after the game. I was really dissapointed with the students there. I see them as a top 25 team in terms of HFA on NCAA football 2006, and they were deathly quiet. our second drive of the game, you hear the announcer say "you would never know that there are 80 thousand plus in the stadium now." Is that how it usually is? This is my first game up in the north, and I know us in the south usually laugh at fans in the north, now I see why. the students didn't show up till the second quarter, and when they were there, they seemed more interested in doing the wave then paying attention to the game. Also, what were the saying during "swingtown?" I tihnk that was what the band was playing. I don't know if I had too high expectations or what, but I was not impressed with the atmosphere there at all.

About those cops, I could write a book about that experience, but I will only point out this one thing. Sometime in the 4th( I think), after the BG students were going to stand for the rest of the game, the cops said "sit down or you're out!!" and no one even looked at the cops. This really upset them and their ego, so one cop, while a play was going on, took out a whistle and blew it, as to get the students attention. Wow... I'm pretty sure that isn't allowed even if you are a cop. Another thing I didn’t understand was why just send the cops over. Wisconsin could have said something over the PA about it, they could have gotten a BGSU worker to come over and say something to the students, or they could have told the refs and asked for a flag, however they just kept yelling, they could have found a better way to get people to sit down.

I'd love to see them at an SEC game (save Vandy and UK, though they aren't looking too bad right now). If they ask someone to sit down, the person would just laugh at them. Then they go cry to the cops, and the cops would just laugh it them too. same thing happened a few years ago with me, when LSU was playing at vt, I was sitting with the LSU students, and we invaded a vt student section, and the cops were yelling at us to go back to our seats, and we were just ignored them and they just gave up.

Standing huh?!?!

I thought your fans were mostly well behaved and sitting quietly. (At least when I snapped this one.) :D Besides, the A-Hole chant was directed at the dude with the Michigan hat. How would you like it if I wore a Central Michigan hat to your house. LOLOL

I've worn UVA jerseys to games at virginia tech, didn't hear any profanity directed toward me then...well except for the BCA game last year, but that was because it was at FedEx field, where they serve beer, so I can't really hold that against them, even though I hate them with a passion.

I thought the thing making the fans sit down was nuts. It's a FRICKING football game!!!!!!!
They also took a noise maker away from a fan near us.........we ask them to go take the instruments away from the band too!!

Same thing was attempted at the first home game last year here. Cop tried to tell the student section to sit down. Didn't last too long though...

I think coach Brandon would have a few choice words if the student section was made to sit down the whole game.

But then again I want him to focus his efforts on that D
