Alvarez Press conf.
Don't know how many people who were at the game eventually saw part of Alvarez' press conf., but these changes should'nt be surprising after these comments:" We had 56 pts. on the board and we still had our 1st team guys on the field trying to keep the ball away from them.""We were fearful of the quick strike ability (sorry, this is paraphrased, but close).
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Winovich? Some Offensive lineman moved to DT so that they can get PT they won't be getting on the offensive side of the ball?Jacobs4Heisman wrote:problem is who do we have to replace our front 7? I would venture our defensive depth isn't near as talented as Wisky's.
Edmond Massey? Aaron Kent? Kevin Mahoney? Shane Steffy, Guy Williamson.
Peel some redshirts and tell them to eat up space?
Maybe if our offense didnt pass so often in practice we would know how to stop the run on D?

As far as moving lineman -- I would love to see that happen. But it's not something that can easily be done mid-season. I'm assuming it's a whole different skill set and would need to be taught in the offseason to have any sort of positive impact.
Roll Along!
Nearly impossible to make that sort of change in mid-season. It's too late for that. Too bad too, because we've got some hogs on our OL and you cannot tell me they'd get pushed around as easily as our existing DTs did.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:I saw winovich in the game alot after teddy went out.Germainfitch1 wrote:Winovich? Of course next year we'll see more of the same. The big athletes will move to OL, the defensive players will continue to be undersized. We'll get run over by Wisconsin & OSU, but cry how we won't see another running game like their's in the MAC, then it will cost us an important MAC game at some point. Rinse, repeat.

Leininger is supposed to be back for 2006....we'll see if it happens.BG EV wrote:We are missing Leininger and Crosley. They had the size and/or speed that is frquently mentioned here.
Hammb is right....we need to get some beef up front if we're gonna continue playing teams like Wisky, OSU, Oklahoma...ect. Even in the MAC we've had trouble with teams like UT and NIU and their ground games. EMU put up over 200 yards on us in 2003.

WHAT??????????
Leiniger could come back? Where has he been for the past year anyway? I thought he was done? If this is true then I'm pyched! Matt had the kind of size we've needed for so long. It was major pain to lose him to his apparently drinking problem. Hope he's got that under control.Falconfreak90 wrote:Leininger is supposed to be back for 2006....we'll see if it happens.BG EV wrote:We are missing Leininger and Crosley. i completely agree, but if I am one of those big guys on the o-line and wouldnt see any pt this year anyway I volunteer to be moved to DT and learn on the fly for the chance to be on the field now.Flipper wrote:Massey apparently has some sort of heart condition, Kent has a back injury. Steffy, Williamson and Mahoney are true freshmen. It'd be really tough to try and turn them into DL at this point in the season as hammb as pointed out.

Defensive transfers........
We've done this forever. One that stands out for me is Brad Williams who was I think recruited by Nebraska to play MLB, obviously ideal for Brad's size at linebacker. I think Brad would've made an absolute stud for us at LB, but guess where he goes first, DT. Now DE is the best place for him size wise, but I do wonder about his quickness for the position though. OSU linebackers Anthony Schlegel , Bobby Carpenter and AJ Hawk all go 6'3 248, 6'3 255 and 6'1 251. By the way , if you didn't know, they are all starters. Thats 3 DE sized guys plugging up rb lanes. That coupled with their athletizm and its not mystery why OSU has one of the stingest run defenses in the nation. Now I know we have no chance now of getting the talent that those 3 posess, but we can stop the bleeding of defensive studs we do get and putting them on offensive line and such. Next time Coach Brandon tries to grab a big DL guy we recruit and tries to make him the next Scott Murcrowski , DC Lovett needs to get tough and say " nope sorry coach , this guy is mine". :-\

Re: WHAT??????????
Really? falconboy, Leininger was only 280lbs. That's way too small to tangle with Big 10 Oline. Heck, Thaler and Cooley only weigh around 280falconboy wrote: Leiniger could come back? It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
