Jack Carle's article in today's S-T didn't mention how long Pope will be out. Has this been confirmed he is out for Ball State?
If so I'd like to see Macon get some good time when B.J. is done running. Maybe they could do the multiple RB formation with Dan and B.J., I'd still like to see what sort of look that presents.

I agree, I forget where I read it (perhaps an alvarez or bielema post game conference) but the Wisconsin staff was quoted as saying that 2 back set was the one thing they weren't prepared for. We were able to run the ball effectively out of that set before pj got hurt. I think that could be a key strategy to fall back on during times the passing game isn't quite clicking (read: 3rd quarter).

Quit going with the two back and let's install the wishbone!Jacobs4Heisman wrote:We were able to run the ball effectively out of that set before pj got hurt. I think that could be a key strategy to fall back on during times the passing game isn't quite clicking (read: 3rd quarter).

Q: Are you counting P.J. Pope out for this game (Ball State)?
GB: "No. We'll see -- it's too early in the week."

Bobby Thomas
Until it was mentioned by GB in his news conf., I didn't reallize that Bobby Thomas had replaced PJ on the Kick return teams...saw him in HS (Warrensville HTs.).... a shifty, quick runner.... GB said they'd planned to play him anyway.... thought I saw a blurb in the T.Blade that we'd planned to redshirt Dan Macon...I know it'd only give him one more year after this, but I don't have a problem with using a 3rd RB in our offense...obviously not at same time...
If PJ IS indeed out for more than a game or so, I'd say that we pull Dan's redshirt off and use him...he's too valuable standing on the sidelines...if that means we only get one year after this, so be it...that's what good recruiting is all about.

I mentioned that in another thread and agree completely. I am a big proponent of having your best players out there on special teams.98_BG_GRAD wrote:Has the question arisen as to why our starting running back was on the kickoff return team when he is not the main return man? That does not make a lot of sense to me. Maybe I am missing something here.
BUT this situation upsets me for two reasons:
1. PJ was not the main return guy. Why risk your starting tailback getting injured just being a blocker? There's not another TE on the roster we could throw out there?
2. Lane is already on the return team. We want to redshirt Macon. On said play, someone mentioned that Lane was also slow to get up as he was the return man. We cannot risk our #1 and #2 backs being out there on kick return where injury is more likely than on a standard offensive play. BTW, was Macon even dressed Saturday? Who would have come in at HB if both Lane and Pope were injured? Or would we just go with five WRs?

I don't see why Sharon is only on punt return.
