Lindy’s picks BG #240 nationally & 5th in MAC East

Post by BGSU33 »

I picked up Lindy’s 2005-2006 basketball magazine the other day and they had BG ranked #240 out of 334 NCAA Division I schools and had us picked to finish 5th in the MAC East. BG had no players picked to the All-MAC teams and it’s basically saying Ohio will run the MAC. FYI, the had Ron Lewis as the #8 impact return player in the country (players who transferred, red-shirted, injured, etc.) and raved about him in the Ohio State page.

Here’s the predicted standings, all-conference teams, etc. for the MAC

MAC East
1. Ohio
2. Akron
3. Buffalo
4. Kent State
5. Bowling Green
6. Miami

MAC West
1. Toledo
2. Northern Illinois
3. Ball State
4. Western Michigan
5. Eastern Michigan
6. Central Michigan

All-MAC First Team
Leon Williams, Ohio
Jeremy Fears, Ohio
Mychal Green, Ohio
Romeo Travis, Akron
Mike McKinney, Northern Illinois

All-MAC Second Team
Sonny Troutman, Ohio
DeAndre Haynes, Kent State
Peyton Stovall, Ball State
John Bowler, Eastern Michigan
Darryl Peterson, Akron

Player of the Year: Leon Williams, Ohio

Newcomer of the Year: Chris Kellerman, Central Michigan

Sounds about right for the team we're going to have this year. Lack of size will be this teams downfall if anything.

Certainly, on paper that's what you have to figure. We are basically starting over. Where was OU picked in the East last year?

We have a tough stretch getting back in the East. When Kent State is picked 4th out of 6 teams, that's saying something. How about Miami, last year's regular season champ, picked last in the East? Wow.

I'm excited to see what the new season brings. What can we realistically expect this season?

With this coach, in this division of the MAC, and with the recent problems we are having I would be happy if this is where we end up. If only we could clone curt miller and let him coach both the men and women. If you get the chance watch one of the women's practices. Then try to get into a men's practice, I think there is still one a season that isn't closed. The difference will be amazing. The women's practices are just run better.

That magazine also states that Germain Fitch and Scott Vandermeer are returning starters, Jeremy Holland is a newcomer, and Brian Moten is not listed. So much for Lindy's MAC analysis being worth at least the paper it's printed on.

The MAC East Div. is now almost unrecognizable. Ohio picked 1st., followed by Akron and Buffalo. Miami is below us. Its almost a complete reversal of what it has been. Man, Mac basketball is ten times more evenly competitive than Mac football.

Yeah, I noticed that too. But to at least give the publications a little room for an excuse, a lot of this type of information is gathered a long time before it ever goes to print. With 300-plus schools, sometimes a lot of these type of things slip through the cracks, especially with "mid-major" schools. I'm not saying that is okay, but it happens every year.
