Does anyone know of a site where one can look up the highest scores ever in a DCI final? Phantom finished 3rd 8)

I've been looking around, and as far as I can tell, the 2005 cadets have the highest score to date (99.15). The only other corps that achieved a 99.15 was the Cavaliers in 2002 w/ their Frameworks show. This was all found on the internet, so this information could be inaccurate.

Just a bit of info:
When comparing scores, keep in mind that DCI changes a lot from year to year, and its not exactly fair to compare corps from different years based on scores alone. A score of 99 today is much different than a 99 10 years ago. Just my $.02.

Here is a link to historic scores for DCI finals back to 1974.

It is fun to look at it. I was at only one finals, Franklin Field in 1976. I saw the Bridgemen all fall down flat on their backs at the end of the show! Great fun!

So I am watching DCI on ESPN2 right now, and I loved the show the Scouts put on. It's an ok format but I will talk about that when I get back.

I must say though, that I didn't "get" the Cadets' show. Did I miss the explanation for the double-sided uniforms and dancing schoolgirls?

I think I liked the Cavaliers a little better, if only because of the weirdness...

The Cadets show was supposed to be surreal...and it was. They did do a fantastic job. We did not see the whole program last night. Those who have seen the whole thing are divided whether they liked the show.

What they do say is that the show was really clean and precise. The drum line was fantastic. They did not resort to past years' pandering to the audience.

The Cavaliers are in danger of becoming a cliche of themselves. Their intros are starting to sound the same year after year. If you listen to the 1999 show (which kind of started the present Cavies sound) and this show the elements are basically the same. They do, however, march better than any other corps, ever.

I need to see the whole Phantom show. I hear it is great and what I saw last night did not disappoint.

I also want to see the whole Madison Scout show. Ever since the JC Superstar show, this corps is on the rise.

I wish the TV production would be batter. Less information and more performance even if they would go to past years. Explaining about judging and parts of the corps will mean something only if you get people hooked on the performances.

I would like the DVD...by the way that is a hint to a couple of dependents who may be looking for birthday and Christmas presents.

I couldn't agree more w/you Emily...I was a lil weirded out by the Cadet performance. Sadly I didn't see the whole airing either, I watched Real World then flipped to DCI...but I was really impressed with what I did see from 10:30 on!! I'm still partial to the Cavs though!!

That's what I was noticing. Their marching was absolutely incredible. Every time they moved into a new set, I'd be like, "Whoa!! That was so cool!! How did they do that?" because the sets looked impossible, the way they changed and flowed into each other.

I'm not really literate in DCI, (I wasn't even literate in marching band at all until I came to college) which is probably why I didn't notice any tendency toward cliche, like you pointed out.

As far as the cavies go and being the same every year..........I kind of agree, but wow, I'd love to be really awesome every year even if it meant being the same. Also, before you jump on the cavies for that, think about how much a lot of the other corps are the same every year. Blue Devils always have lots of screaming soprano solos and an accel or deccel in the drumline, the cadets pit rarely plays any textued parts or uses 4 mallets, SCV typically have really hard drill and really messy feet, but they groove, scouts are just plain loud most of the time and happen to play a lot of latin stuff, crossmen play jazz, boston seems to use bolero every freakin year.......etc..... What I'm getting at is that every design team has it's tendencies and I think that's cool. I used to hate that too, but now, it's kind of like using the same signature on every painting that an artist would do. I eagerly await the V made by the scv cymbal line, and the "matrix" visual that they do every year, and I enjoy seeing all of the triangular patterns that the glassmen use. And the cavies, their visual program is just incredible and I love the rotating diamonds that they use nearly every year. A corps that does not have at least some similarities year to year is to me a corps without tradition, and I think tradition seems to be pretty high on the value chart around this forum.

And oh yeah, I would have picked either phantom or the bluecoats this year...good stuff.

Cadets - Didn't like their show... but I am happy for my friend who marched snare there.

Cavies - Surprisingly, I liked their show better than years past. As far as their marching goes, yeah they look good at the end of the year... but in the beginning... it's much like watching a demolition derby. At least, that's how it used to be when they marched in DCM (drum corps midwest).

Phantom - Not impressed by the bass line... but I loved the show.

Bluecoats - Good show also.

Pioneer (my old corps) - More aggressive drum book. Show was good, but still missing something. Need to get rid of the plaid.

Funny thing is, I went to Boston for DCI finals, but I didn't even go in. Spent about two hours in the lot...found out tickets were 50+ dollars and they didn't allow people to go in and out of the stadium... spent the rest of the day touring Boston instead.

I agree with much of what you say. Corps are known for certain sounds or looks.

What I mean is that The Cavies shows have very familiar musical structures. I could be blindfolded and know that they were playing. Is that a bad thing? No, not at all. But if they do it too long they will be in danger of not keeping up with what is new. They used to be new. They were cutting edge. They may not be in a couple of years.

As for the "diamond cutter" routine. I only remember it being used in the 1999 and 2000 shows. I do not recall it being used in that exact form since. They can still outmarch any other corps and their formations are very innovative.

I will disagree with your assesment of the Madison Scouts. They have come a long way from the "just loud" period. The JC Superstar show may be one of the most underrated shows ever.

By the way did you mention in your list that the Glassmen are just boring every year? It is a shame because there is talent in that corps.
