First off, I just wanna say that whoever Forbes is is cool, because they're one of the only people on here other than my friends that hasn't ripped me to shreds. Secondly, the "diamond cutter" thing has been used in years past as well, and I believe the first time I heard of it was when they did "Gloria" in '89. And yes, unfortunately the Glassmen are usually pretty boring, but I thought otherwise this year, I really enjoyed their show. The drumlines there in 2001 and 2002 were amazing however, some of the best in the history of DCI.

In other DCI news, the man named Brett Kuhn, who we all saw on the broadcast as the percussion caption head for the Cavies has officially retired after 20 something years, so I imagine we'll see quite a change there next year. I always assumed that Mike McIntosh would step in to take over, but then he left for the Blue Coats. Secondly, Ralph Hardimon is now the arranger for Capital Regiment's percussion. He was the man who followed up the innovative work that Fred Sanford did at SCV and brought the percussion section there to what it is today. It should be a really good change for Cap Reg to have such a knowledgable and experienced writer. I can't wait for next year.......hopefully there will be more than 2 or 3 shows that I really enjoy........

I saw the cadets live - I think that it is something that is easier to understand live...I LOVED the cadets show. But I am an esoteric musician.

It will be rebroadcast on the 20th at 3pm and the 23rd at 2pm (I think) on espn2 - check it out again or tape it (since my friggin TiVo didn't record it) :x

I took issue with the way some of the narration was used. The drumspeak in the Cadets show was pretty cool, but I didn't like the way Blue Devils used narration. Having a guy say "YOWZA" over and over again is not entertaining to me.
Cavies were brilliant as usual, but the show design itself wasn't on par with the material that they have put out in years past. As for their drill, though... I had an opportunity to watch them in rehearsal in July. OMG! When you watch them move on TV in uniform you don't really get a sense for how fast they are really going. They are literally running from set to set at times, and you can't hear it in their playing. Amazing!
I loved Madison and Phantom this year. Great shows. Also, the Glassmen were much improved over last year. I had a lot of fun watching their show this year.

Matrix,

Maybe I just have to get to know you better, then I can rip you.

Sorry, I could not resist.

I am the father of a freshman at BGSU. She marched in high school but not in college.

Thanks a ton, and yeah, that's probably true, I do get a lot of crap for being so steadfast in my opinions, but I figure it's better to be firm in one's beliefs and piss a few people off than to be all wishy-washy. Either way, thanks for being informed about the drum corps idiom, it's nice to hear some intelligent opinions on that stuff.
