Pesky OU and Central Michigan. It won't be a problem for the MAC's devoted weekly followers but from the national viewpoint 4 teams have been billed as MAC contenders. If we throw two new teams into the mix, which we clearly have to do, this will dilute the MACs overall quality nationally although to the daily observer it actually improves the MACs overall quality. It will seem nationally that the teams that were billed as the top 4 are not as good as they were deemed and not that these other 2 teams are contenders. The MAC will once again beat up on itself this year, like in every year past and end up looking poorly nationally for it.
I for one don't really care and invite the potential for more than just two contenders on each side. With our D we werent ging anywhere this year anyway. Now if we can battle it out for a MAC championship bid and the right to play South Florida or Wisconsin again in a bowl I would be happy.

The fact that Ohio beat Pitt will reflect poorly on BG, Miami, NIU, and UT? I can see your point about CMU I suppose, but Ohio??

I think I follow the logic here. If there are more "good" MAC teams, we're bound to see more teams with 2 conference losses, which means their overall records are bound to be 8-4 or such. That's not the type of record that's going to generate a lot of buzz.
The MAC's top 4 programs have thrived over the past few years by pummeling the lower-tier teams and scoring some strong OOC wins. That has produced some 1-loss and 2-loss records, garnering Top 25 votes, etc.
Long-term, the improvement of Directional Michigan, Ohio, et al will help the MAC because more teams will score those OOC wins, hopefully against BCS teams. That gains the conference respect and will make it plausible for poll voters to consider MAC teams with, say, 3 losses.
As for the Falcons, we're bound for the MACC game and a bowl. Book it!
