As for Omar... the guy is talented... and the best thing is that he throws better on the run then he does stationary... something that the NFL craves... if you can't hit someone on the run... that you might as well not even bother... the Drew Bledsoes of the world are leaving... unless you have a line like New England or Indy... your QB will get lit up standing still.

Sure, no qualm here. Just wanted to point out that Omar is not the first of his stature at BG. There are quite a few superstar type athletes in our history. This list was a 'off of the top of my head' kind of list anyways. Howard Komives is fine. I just thought of Daniels since he was a first round pick. And as for Thurmond being above everyone else, again fine. Put him on the mega-superstar list if you must. And as for relatively successful NFL career, you may be able to make a case for Martin Bayless as well.

I know nothing about Hockey but is Blake really one of the top 50 best players ever?

Tom Wottle won a olympic medal right? that should count. Was his name Dave Wottel?

You could make a damn fine case for him, I think. My historical knowledge of hockey is not as good as I'd like it to be, but if you go based simply on points scored, he's got to be up there.

Plus, in terms of BG, hockey has done more to help promote BGSU than all other sports combined, in my opinion. That means quite a bit on our end.

You may want to qualify that as the points scored by a defenseman. Yes, he's that good and probably would have won the Hobey had he stuck around for his senior season. However, he wasn't the best student in the world and money talks. His name ended up on the Stanley cup his first year out of college.

Normally I'm not a huge fan of "offensive" defensemen. It's cool that you can score, but most of them sacrifice their defensive abilities to score those points, or take themselves out of defensive position to do so.

In Blake's case that does not seem to be true. The guy has a huge shot from the point and gets many of his points on rebounds or tips by forwards, or his goals when the shots go in. He is still a great physical presence, and a very solid defender.

Not as up on my hockey history as other sports, so I'm not sure if I'd say he was in the top 50 ever, but he has been one of the best 2-3 defensemen in the league for the past 10 years.

I would put Dave Wottle up there in the mega-superstar category with Nate Thurmond and Rob Blake. He was an Olympic Gold Medalist in the 800 meters in 1972 and he also held the world record in the 800 at one time. Here is a link to his bio from when he was inducted into the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1982:

http://www.usatf.org/HallOfFame/TF/show ... HOFIDs=189

As for other Track superstars from BGSU, Sid Sink won the USA Track and Field Championship in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 1971, and finished 4th in the same event at least once when he was trying to qualify for the Olympics (the top 3 make the Olympic team). I believe Sid is currently the compliance officer at BGSU.

If you were going to do the stupid and impossible and try to list the top ten athletes in BG history what would it be?

Bernie Casey and Martin Bayless have to fall somewhere on this list.

1.Nate Thurmond
2.Dave Wottle
3.Rob Blake
4.Orel Hershiser (Gold medal, Cy Youngs?)
5.Butch Komives
6.Antonio Daniels
7.Omar Jacobs
8.Keith McLeod
9.Anthony Stacy
10.Josh Harris
11.Nolan Reimold
