OK, I've been mulling this for a bit and figured it would be good flame bait as we come up on a "bye" Saturday.
With the advent of the "permanent" 12-game schedule, reconsider the general disdain for I-AA opponents. Someone in Northwestern's administration said their strategy moving forward was something akin to this:
A I-AA opponent
A MAC (or other "mid-major" school, I suppose)
A top-flight opponent
A school that's, I forget the exact phrase, academically similar
So, following that model, our OOC strategy would be ...

A I-AA opponent. Yes, I-AA is not I-A, but it's a home game and, in most cases, a win.

A Top 25-type opponent, a la Ohio State, Oklahoma, Purdue. Good national exposure and we can't overlook the financial ramifications. This would be without reciprocation of a home game, as our I-AA game would obviously not have a return date.

Mid-major one-for-one deals, a la FIU (or was it FAU ... anyway, F_U

), Boise State, Wyoming, etc.

BCS teams with a return date - creatively like we've done with Wisconsin; hopefully others at the Doyt ... Kansas, Northwestern, Mizzou, etc. Other teams that I would look at Kentucky, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Indiana, Iowa State, Wake Forest, Duke, etc. Cincy's a possibility, but they're locked into their rivalry with Miami and I doubt they have an appetite for two MAC schools in one year. Just a hunch.
OK, flamethrowers, have at it. 8)
