Being the hockey pundit I am I'd probably add a few names like Ken Morrow, George McPhee, Dan Bylsma, Brian Holzinger, Mike Johnson, Mike Liut, Nelson Emerson, etc., etc.

All had and some are still having great success in the NHL.

Most people have no idea how many players BG has sent to the pros through our hockey program.

BRIAN McCLURE- Probably the best football player to come out of BGSU.

"The arrival of a skinny, much heralded quarterback from Ravenna, Ohio, in 1982 signaled the beginning of an 11-year period in which the Falcons would make 4 bowl appearances.

The quarterback was Brian McClure and all he would do in the next four seasons was lead the Falcons to a 34-12 record, a 19-1 record at home, two bowl games, and become only the second quarterback in NCAA history to pass for over 10,000 yards.

He became the starter in the third game of his freshman season, and despite missing the last two games of the regular season, he became the first freshman to be named the first team all-league quarterback.

He would rewrite the BG and MAC record books before his career was over, setting fivee NCAA records as well. McClure still holds numerous school and league records and in his senior season finished in the top ten in the Heisman Trophy voting, the only BG player to ever receive votes for college football's top award.

PAUL MILES

Paul Miles is second (for now) on the BG career rushing list with 3,238 yards while he is also the only football player to have his number retired. At the time of his graduation, he was only the third running back in NCAA history to rush fro 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons.

And McClure gradutated the year before I enrolled at BSGU...

I'm glad I got to see him play some games while he was at BG. He was something else. His only home loss? 6-3 to that school up north in front of over 33,000 fans...BG's biggest crowd ever. McClure threw for a ton of yards but could not get in the end zone.

When McClure entered his senior season, he was on track to break the NCAA record for yards (held, I believe, by Doug Flutie). It's hard to appreciate just how good of a QB he was, given the gaudy numbers we see from the proliferation of the spread offense.

Brian could sling it as well as anybody I've ever seen. Period.

I was at that game.....it was pouring buckets the whole game. The only thing that either school could accomplish were field goals. Not too many left the game early despite the weather.

It wasn't Flutie. Wasn't it one of the Brigham Young quarterbacks? I believe, when McClure left, he was second in career yardage to one of the BYU guys.

Unfortuantely his timing was a little off as to when he graduated. There was a glut of great QBs that year...as a result his professional career never quite took off.

Gfitch: As someone else said, it never really took off. He got drafted late ... very late ... by Buffalo. It came down to him or Frank Reich and, while I was told it basically was a toss up, we all know how it ended up.

SF, Freak: No, he was on track to break some record held by Flutie ... maybe it was total yardage? I remember because I did a graphic for the BG News and its title was "Aerial Pursuit" and it featured a photo of Brian and Flutie. One of the other names Brian was chasing? Randall Cunningham.

Watching McClure engineer the drive that beat Kentucky in 1985 was a real joy.

I remember my dad talking about McClure, and how he was an incredible player. What about overall? Where does he stand in the all time records?
