Authentic & Replica Jersey's Poll
Authentic & Replica Jersey's Poll
I am wondering how many people here would purchase an authentic white or orange BG Jersey #4 for $200 bucks? How about $175?
I have been doing research on this issue. I was recently frustrated when I found out that Ohio U had Adidas Replica jersey's available to them.
As of today, here is what my research has revealed.
1. If the Athletic Dept. for BG chose to order 25, 50 or even 100 authentic jerseys and make them for sale to the general public, they could. The authentic would cost them around $100. I think they could at least get $175- $200 which could help them raise money. Why they don't do this, I don't know. I am offering my help to distribute if needed. I'm sure several here could also help. I think the demand is there, what do you guys think? By the way the company that Adidas contracts to make our authentics is right in Columbus. Can be made within a couple of weeks. We just need authorization from the athletic dept.
2. Replicas are tricky. To have Adidas produce a true replica they would have to order 500 pieces per size. The side stripes are unique. Valley Apperal would have to do that, and there is just not that type of demand. I understand. I have spoken to Adidas and what they do in cases like BG, Pitt, Kansas, Ohio U and all the other schools besides the Nebraskas, OSU's and ND's is take a solid orange or white Adidas jersey and make them as close as possible. I personally would like this jersey versus some of the other non-branded replicas because it would have Adidas on it and be a higher quality. These can be ordered in as few as 50 and only cost about $20 to produce. Why SBX didn't order these, I don't know. They probably pay about $10 for the ones they are getting now, which may be the answer to my own question. These would take about a month to order Hell we could order 50 sell them for $40 bucks a piece, here as a donation to fund the site. Whatever.
My point is that either way something could be done. Do people here think there is a demand? I think so. How can we help? We have a Heisman candidate here. I want a quality #4 jersey. The AD dept could take pre-orders on authentics if they wanted to. Make sure they get 10, 15 or 20 oders then they can have them produced.
I know we have talked about this before, but I am trying to create some interest. Maybe we can start e-mailing the AD dept.
Let me know what you guys think.

You mention that the company that Adidas contracts to make the jerseys is in Columbus.
How about this, contact that company and ask if they could make the jersey minus the Adidas logo.
I have worked in retail sports merch. before and have seen companies do this.
Just a thought to keep the cost down but be a closer match than the Adidas with no side panel coloring.
For the price and "closeness" to the real thing you really can't go wrong with the Sportex jersey SBX offers. Only thing is, they seem to be low on supplies at SBX.

SBX told me they are getting in a new supply this week. If I contacted that Columbus company, they would probably have to remove anything BG and Adidas in order to sell it to me. However that's not the point. The point is our athletic dept has the ability to get them for us. I don't care about the money, I would just like the real thing. I think others here would too.
By the way, the Adidas guy is willing to do what he can to help. The decisions lie within our AD.

BGSUVA - considering the AD sold several last year on e-bay that went as high as $300, I figured the demand was probably there. The other thing, that would be great is that we would be able to pick our size and actually wear it. I to collect authentics. If you are able to buy true authentics under $100 that is incredible, or they are of players no one really wants anyway. Even old Browns players, authentics go for more then that.

I have 2 authentic jerseys from 1985 and 1997...both BROWN. The 1985 jersey was given to me by Mike Foor, DL at BG from 1982-85. That is Mrs. Freak's cousin.
The '97 jersey was bought at one of the Equipment Dept's "garage sales"...when they sold a ton of sweats, jerseys, sweatshirts...ect.
It was one of those sales I first met Falcon Fanatic!
I don't think I would pay $200 for an authentic though....

I would not be willing to pay for an authentic jersey. I would be willing to pay $50 for a nice looking replica, however. I did laundry the other day and was hanging up my OSU jersey (sorry guys), and Browns jersey and was thinking why I don't have a BG jersey when I spend a lot mroe time supporting them than I do OSU. Then I realized that I don't really care for any of the BG jerseys. The ones in the bookstore look shoddy, and it seems that the Athlete Tech ones are very hit or miss.
If we could get replica jerseys that actually looked like the real thing I'd definitely buy one.

How often does the AD have these or their eBay auctions. Strikes me that making them regular events (and publicizing them effectively) would put a few pennies in the coffers and get the hardcore fans excited.Falconfreak90 wrote:The '97 jersey was bought at one of the Equipment Dept's "garage sales"...when they sold a ton of sweats, jerseys, sweatshirts...ect.
The colleges that do sell authentics usually cost around $125. I would be willing to pay $50-$75 for a replica, and I would pay the $125 for an authentic, but not that much over it though. I think the demand is there also, if we could get them ordered now maybe the bookstore would put them up for sale at the Temple game. Like others I've always wondered why the university never got into jersey sales.
