11. QB Marcus Vick, Virginia Tech – When it comes to the Heisman, everyone recognizes there’s a hype and notoriety factor, which helps a well-known player like Marcus Vick and hurts other such as Bowling Green’s Omar Jacobs. Because he’s a Vick, everything he does this fall—good or bag—carries three times the impact and gets three times the coverage.
Last Week: 12-of-19 for 172 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT (Duke)
2005 Season: 22-of-40 for 280 yards, 4 TDs and 1 INT
Barometer: Steady
Is it just me or was Omar hyped as much or more coming into this season than vick?

First of all, they need to shorten that list because some guys just don't belong at this point. Tedd Ginn is one of them. I still think Omar has a great chance to win this thing...especially if he ends up with 50+ TDs and around 10 INTs or less. But, it will be tough to knock off Leinhart unless USC loses somwhere along the way.

Wait just a minute there, Tedd Ginn did have a horrid game against Texas, but he still deserves to be on the top 15 hesiman list. He is still one of the most explosive and electrifying players in the college game. AS for Omar, the sky is the limit for our nasty QB, i wont be suprised if he breaks David Klingler’s single-season record of 54 touchdown passes. Heck, he might even break the single season pass yards record, you never know. All i know is that Omar is a well deserved heisman player and i happy he plays for our falcons. i cant wait to watch the heisman show at the end of the year, and see Omar sitting with the best in new york.JimmyZ11381 wrote:First of all, they need to shorten that list because some guys just don't belong at this point. Agreed, but until that explosiveness translates into big plays and numbers he doesn't deserve to be getting heisman votes. Once he starts showing that potential, his name can come back into the discussion.
Potential + a dollar can get you a McDonald's double cheeseburger.

If he's invited to New York, that's pretty close to the Heisman in my book.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:This is all well and good and it's nice to see Omar's name on such lists, but he's not going to win the heisman. WOW 12-19 with 3TDs and a pick against that vaunted Duke defense? just give him the heisman...that is almost better than his below .500 performance in the first me of the season against State.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:11. My point is that being in the race and having a realistic shot at winning it are two very different things.Schadenfreude wrote:If he's invited to New York, that's pretty close to the Heisman in my book.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:This is all well and good and it's nice to see Omar's name on such lists, but he's not going to win the heisman. The best analogy I can come up with is a green party candidate being on the ticket for president. Sure he's in the running and anyone can vote for him, but he ain't gonna beat the big boys. My line of reasoning is that if I think he has a good chance to get to the top 5, but no chance of winning, then those are two totally different accomplishments.
Omar had maybe a 5-10% shot at winning if we made a BCS game and/or went undefeated. Now the chance is zero.
But I still think he'll get to new york if we win the MAC.

If Lienart and USC lose a game, Omar does have a chance, and I think USC will lose one this year. Breaking the single season passing record and the TD record would be hard to argue with. When Jason White won, he got it by default for beaing the QB on the "best" (at that time) team. If we have a similar year, all the sports pundits who like to stir the pot will bring up Omar.Schadenfreude wrote:I just don't agree.
