Does this game matter?
In the overall picture, this game is merely for exhibition purposes only. Neither team is going to get a significant bump in the polls based on this game alone. Neither team is going to get any closer to post-season play based on tomorrow's game (unless not enough teams qualify for bowls which is unlikely this season in my opinion).
I certainly hope the team comes out loose in this game and just plays well. I don't really care if we lose since I respect Boise, but I just want to see them play to their potential against good competition for FOUR quarters.

No such thing as a moral victory in my opinion. A loss is a loss and I hope we win. One thing that matters is respect for the MAC. The MAC is always disappointed to be considered below the WAC and CUSA's of the world. The only way to garner respect as a conference is for our top teams to beat their top teams. That means a BG win and a UT win next week. Also, if an extra bowl becomes available to the MAC that is better than the GMAC and the MCB, the highest ranked and most respected MAC team gets that bowl. Last, our guys don't work their tails off to just lose a game because it doesn't matter to others.
Wisconsin....

Yea I see that in consideration of our position in the MAC this game means 0 for that championship. Yet this game means alot about who we are as a team and conference, lets face it Bosie has not been turning heads this year, and there have been alot of people hurt falling from thier band wagon after Ga and O, we showed real well with WI and it was a great showcase for the O and Omar, Ball was not an O demonstration, or a D one for that matter...by having a solid game at Bosie, and returning to the MAC we will be on track to win the MAC....I have been thinking of this game as a mac game...like when we had NIU and TOL each season...this game fills that now mising NIU void.

jmillerbg, I see your point. Once our BCS-busting dream faded in the Madison sunset, our only goal has to be winning the MAC title and this game does absolutely nothing to further that goal.
I'm not looking for a moral victory, I'm looking for marked, significant improvement from the defense I saw in the Wisconsin game and the absence of our notorious third quarter meltdowns. Those wouldn't be moral victories, those would be signs that we're ready to roll to the MACC game.
BelieveNBG: I should absolutely hope that the team expects nothing short of a victory. They are too good not to.

1987 ALum is reading me correctly...
You got it -- I am just looking for a solid performance that makes the MAC scared to death of us. I am looking for BG to put together the kinda of performace we know (think?, hope??) we can.
I certainly want BG to to win -- as we all do (Boise visitors excluded).
I wish this game did mean more than it does. I wish it meant the winning team was on their way up the Top 25 ladder. Instead, I think the two teams have three votes between them (and Boise has zero).

I will bet you a shiny nickel this game has no bearing on us getting into a bowl game, but that is besides the point.
I didn't intend for my original post to spark this talk. In fact, I think the Falcons have a good chance of winning the game. Boise has not proved anything this year either.
I guess my original post showed a little of my dissapointment (not in the team) but in what this game means. I think we were all hoping that this game would solidify the winner as the flag bearer for the non-BCS schools for the rest of the season. While that may still be the case (time will tell), the winner is not going to make the splash we were all hoping for originally.

This game does not matter when it comes to a bid to the GMAC or MCB. If BG takes care of buisness during the MAC part of the schedule, then the bowl will take of itself. The odds of making a bowl outside of either of these is slim at best, but in this very slim chance of a case you are correct. This is a must win if there is any hope of "moving up" in terms of a bowl bid.Tricky_Falcon wrote:yes to get in a bowl game...they all matter.
Tricky, with all due respect, this game will probably mean zero when it comes time to talk bowls. Last year was a fluke.Tricky_Falcon wrote:yes to get in a bowl game...they all matter.
There's a lot of negativity on this board. Yeah the defense isn't stellar but geez. Some people have given up already. It's a given that Falconboy will post that we will lose 80-10 but some of the other loyal fans on here have surprised me a bit.
With that being said, I understand what you're saying about negativity. But if you exclude falconboy's hyperbole, I would grade it as more legitimate concern than negativity.
Our defense hasn't looked good. That's not negativity, that's just the way it is. We are not awful. We are not pathetic. Our defense has, however, struggled. Right now we're a .500 team with a closer-than-expected win against a Bottom 10 team that lost its other two games by a combined score of 120-something to 3.
Don't read too much into some of these posts. I want, hope and expect BG to win. But I'm more concerned with how we play; I've heard that the defense did a better job of executing - filling the lanes and tackling - against Ball State than against Wisky. That makes me happier than simply winning a shootout against the Cardinals.
If our defense makes another stride forward - again, something I'm expecting - we'll have some real momentum rolling into Homecoming.
