Defense was fine, ummm offense?

Post by edr4225 »

The defense tonight was actually much better than our previous games. It was our lack of offense that really did us in tonight. i dont know what type of scouting our staff did on boise, but we trully looked unprepared to battle tonight. i have never seen omar so uncomfortable in the pocket, he was throwing the ball all over the place without a purpose. Our running game wasnt making much noise either, was pope really one hundred percent or did our offensive line fail to create holes. Another thing that gets me is the dropped balls, what is up with the dropped balls. We have had way to many passes dropped this year and tonight their were more. I know that omar cant do his job if our wrs dont catch the ball. Hopefully, our offense goes out next game and just gets nasty. Because we cant win the mac if we dont have our usual explosive offense, are teams figuring us out? are we making the correct adjustments? I hope the answers to those questions are no and yes. Lets move on from this game and keep supporting our falcons because we can still be mac champs and have a great season.

The defense will never ever be good until they can put pressure on a QB. The only players really trying out there play in the secondary.

Oh I agree the offense didn't show up. but the defense is far from fine and no, I really didn't see any improvements by the defense at all. We let a team that avg. around 100 yds rushing to over 300. that's not good. I saw the same defense as I saw in the Wisconsin game. Luckily I didn't see the Ball State game.

I feel bad for Deaudre Perry because I believe that he is the only guy on this defense that is worth much of anything. Too many guys playing out of position - we have DE's playing DT, LB's playing DE, safeties playing LB, and defensive backs that sit back in the softest zone I have ever seen. I'm disappointed in the development of some of these guys that do have talent - Piepkow, Parks, Johnson, etc. Defense was terrible tonight, but this loss was a team effort.

I agree with you 100%. They're the one's making every single tackle.

If giving up 500 yards of offense in 3 quarters is a fine performance I'm not sure we can lower the bar much more.

No, the defense wasn't any better tonight. Just more of the same. They exploited the middle of our defense with the run, and when we were in a position to make a tackle, we can't get it done. Our play on third down was horrible. Receivers were wide open in our secondary. At least against Ball State we made a couple of plays on defense...not tonight.

Offense had to ideal what it was doing tonight, but that's no excuse for the defense performance again.

Temple, OU, Western Michigan, Akron, Kent State? Maybe this will give us time to figure this thing out?

Yeah we didnt vastly improve on defense, but it was better than the Wisconsin game, at least we made attempts to tackle tonight even though the boise players broke most of them. What we have to understsand is that our defense isnt gonna be great this year, im just hoping that they can be average. By average, i mean just get a couple of stops, it doesnt have to be domination, but just a few stops, so we can get the ball to our explosive offense . its just unfortunate that our offense couldnt display why they are one of the best in the nation tonight.

The only difference between tonight and Wisconsin is that Boise didn't have the Badgers offensive line or Brian Calhoun.

You guys do know that the OFFENSE held the ball a total of about six minutes in the first half?

Now, a thinking person would wonder if that would have ANY effect on a defense.

Would it?

Think, McFly. Think.

You know I'd say something worth while on this thread if the coaching staff would put a worth while product out on the field....never been so embarrassed to be a falcon fan as I was tonight....call me a pessimist or whatever, but you couldn't make me drink enough alcohol tonight to make me enjoy that game on ESPN 2.

I have to say I do not think our defense played well either, IMO. If I remember correctly, we “forced” just one punt and it didn’t come until the fourth quarter! That was after Boise State decided to end the game basically by running the ball and eating clock. But it wasn’t just bad defense, it was also bad offense and just plain old terrible special teams.

I hate to say it, but we all know that life goes in cycles. Whatever is strong will become weak, and so on. I think this season we are witnessing the begining of the end for a winning program here at BGSU. We've seen Unparalleled success the last few years and now we shall slip into that period where winning is very hard to come by. Hopefully the period will be a short one. Here's to BG and the memories they've given us the last few years!
