Bowers also was the DC @ Kent State, got fired, coached high school, came to BG. I hear his wife is a pretty good coach (I believe @ Mich. St), maybe she could help out on our not so special teams.

my two cents

It seemed to me that whenever Boise kicked off, their guys must have sprinted down the field. They seemed to be meeting the returner between the 10 and 15 yard line everytime. When we kicked off, we did that stupid huddle up and lets be running toward the sideline instead of down the field when the ball was kicked. Thus, the returner has a chance to get a full head of steam before even having to deal witha tackler. Not a good thing for us.

that was my feeling with the punt protection. let's take 3 guys back from the line of scrimmage which allows 4 guys to run a full head of steam at them and bust through like no one's business.

I hate that punt formation and it is made worse by the fact the 3 blockers stand about 3 yards in front of the punter. It seems like other teams that kick out of that formation have the "wall" closer to the line of scrimmage. The guy that blocked the kick last night just had to jump straight up and he blocked it because our wall was so close to Fry. In a related comment, we have ripped the special teams up and down last night and today and rightfully so, but Nate Fry had a couple really solid boots last night when we didn't do that stupid rugby kick.

I know I am new to this forum, but I would also like to point out that we have a defensive ends and defensive tackles coach. Now I am not at practice so I don't know if they work together the whole time or split up for position drills, but I have searched the internet listings of other teams and can't find two defensive line coaches anywhere else (keep in mind I haven't looke at every team). The problem with this is that these front four need to be on the same page. It would be like having an offensive tackles coach and an offensive guard coach. Yeah, they each have somewhat different responsibilities in their blocking schemes, but they could still all be addressed by one coach. That is just one of my thoughts as to why our d-line isn't getting the push up front that they need.
