Wow, I am excited about the season so far!!!! Our running game and QB draws have been outstanding!!! I know we have had a little problem stopping the run, but I can see it getting better!!!! Our special teams are coming around too, most teams have trouble with extra points, field goals, kick coverage, kick return, punting, and punt coverage. I can see our halftime adjustments and clock management getting better as well, wow I am excited!!!!transfer2BGSU wrote:OK - I think we all need to take a moment and settle down.
I had the opportunity to talk to some parents of our players while in Boise. These parents are reading the boards. Many of them are disappointed at the attitudes of many that post on these boards.
The attacks on Timchenko were uncalled for - my thought and many parental thoughts.
Its been said on this board before and it is evident in the posts of many that a good number of people on this board have never had pads and a helmet on, yet they spout off like they're Falconboys' golden recruits 6-5/350 lbs. Amazing what people do hiding behind a keyboard.
Remember that these are young men (18-22 years old) that are out there representing our university. Many of them representing our university in a more positive manner than the coach and player bashing "fans" on this forum.
It's time to think BEFORE you post. Many bash the fans of OSU and other schools for their overzealous behaviors. Maybe it's time we looked in the mirror.
Welcome gspointer. You made good points.

I think the point is: If you are going to call out Gregg Brandon fine. But assume he and his family are reading.BGDrew wrote:So we're just supposed to let the team be as crappy as they want and never say anything?
Same for Josef Timchenko, or Jon Lovitz, or Charles Sharon, etc.
The decorum here would probably be better if we composed posts we would willing to be say in the presence of members of the team and their families.
Would everyone here be willing to say everything they post here to Gregg Brandon's face? His wife's face? A player's parents?
Those are pretty good tests as to whether a post is appropriate or not.
We have a good family atmosphere around this program, and it's probably our biggest selling point in comparison to the program in Columbus.
Let's not lose that just because of the Chinese fire drill we saw on ESPN last Wednesday.
I don't think anyone is arguing we all have to mimick Barney the Purple Dinosaur, either. Gregg Brandon was pretty tough on Josef Timchenko the other day, calling his performance so far "unacceptable" for a Division I program.
But he was just stating a fact -- a fact Josef and his parents know full well.
Some of our posts have gone farther than that.
Schade: Exceptionally and eloquently put. Thanks for that post.I think the point is: If you are going to call out Gregg Brandon fine. But assume he and his family are reading.

Wholeheartedly seconded. The "burden of proof" is heavier upon coaches because they are paid to do a job.
Nevertheless, I'd like to think that this was a forum that helped the cause. Useful criticism is never a bad thing. When we're talking about people who's GPA's are as important as their performances on turf, though, it pays to ask "would I REALLY want to read this if I was on the field?".
Although I don't mind jibing a paid college coach, I don't see any need to rip any player, regardless of who that athlete plays for.

I just hate when individual players on here are be called out and it happens over and over again. Jelani Jordan has been bashed probably 100 times on this board and usually it was not even deserving. Heck, IMO he is one of only a couple players out there that busts his ass. I have no problems with people being unhappy with the team, I know I am not happy but individual attacks on players are uncalled for from those of us who represent BGSU.
Probably not. I think he would disagree with part of my Top 5 Movies list...Schadenfreude wrote: Would everyone here be willing to say everything they post here to Gregg Brandon's face?
But seriously, you're right on. Good post.

I would not get down on GB yet folks...here is why
he has taken us to more Bowl Games than the three previous coaches....Dare I ask do you realy Gary Blackeye back...or Moe A.....I did not think so.
He has an amazing record, has done amazing things with our players, has gotten us some real good players.
Do we feel let down right now your dam right we do...we lost a squeaker to WI...and in the aftermath of that we are so far the only team taht has threaten WI this season...and no one has put up even close to that many pts on them.
Sure we had issues with Ball but hell we won it.
We had realy problems with the broncos...but look at what our D did in that game...we held them to 6 pts in the first half of play those kids play as much as they do in a whole a game..how much more do you want out them, they had nothing left to give....its not their fault we could not sustain a drive and give them time to suck on o2. So taht game our O was of...but we still had three td passes from a guy who will with out a doubt be not only one of the best qbs in college football history...but will be a stellar pro as well...we have reciever who catch all kinds of ballss...who will make it to the next level...
We are fortunate to have these players here, we are lucky to many of them in thier preprodays. We have to remember that we are part of the fuel in thier fire, they have not let us down...we are 1 and 0 in the mac...we can win the mac and go to another bowl game...a third bowl in three years mind you. lets give them all some slack they have earned it...and if we go 1 and 5 inthe mac...then we have reason to be doubtfull. but for now have fiath, have faith in our team.

Blackney took us to bowl games his first two years, too. I hope (and have faith) that Brandon isn't taking us down the same path GB did.

1. Greg Brandon/Gary Blackney/Denny Stolz - two each.
2. Doyt Perry - one.
Blackney left after running the program into the ground.Schadenfreude wrote:Coaches who have taken our team to the most bowl games:TG1996 wrote:I stopped reading right here.MACMAN wrote:I would not get down on GB yet folks...here is why

Stolz put the screws to the team in 1985.
Doyt Perry is, of course, a legend.
Where, eventually, will Brandon fall on this list?
thinks that he is still the head coach of the football team you all care so much about and that is still 1-0 in the MAC.....and he wonders why you were all afraid of losing him to UNLV but now start threads to crack jokes at him when there is a conference to go win
ARE YOU GUYS OVER THE GAME YET?

bottom line is we all agree he is getting the job done, and done well now while Black eye did win 60 games here his overall record was
60-50-2 five games off of five hun....and well judging by the overall fan turn out his last several season...his loosing record was and away more memorable than his thrid rank overal with 60 wins....
GB is 21-8 in two+ years as head coach...He is our coach, he is doing well reguardless of what happened these first few games and our season is going to be fine

Not picking on you here Freak, but you said some interesting things that I know a lot of people feel the same way about. We all love this football team and because things have been so good, we only expect greatness. If BG loses, look at this s**t that happens on this board. We do have a right to be upset but being upset and losing faith are two different things.Falconfreak90 wrote: I think we have every right to be upset by what happened Wed night. That was as poorly prepared a team as I've seen in some time...and I LIVE AND DIE WITH THIS FOOTBALL TEAM!! But sometimes ya gotta look at it from a different view.
I have always supported Coach Brandon and he has done a great job. But Wed night was inexcusable. I've come to EXPECT BG to win every game...even the ones we should not win.
Upset is driving 30 hours to Boise to watch a team score 6 points in 3 quarters.
Losing faith is everything I've read on these boards lately.
In our eyes, this team has no reason to lose any game because we have this idea they reached a new level. You can't lose games you don't play. We didn't play against Boise so why get all hyped up about it? Is it the coaches fault? The players? Who knows. I do know that people have bad games and you can't be 100% ready for everyone. I know some of you will go on about coaching changes but I doubt you coach football at any level beside video gaming. I'm just sick of people blaming everyone else for something that could easily be their problem.
This team has yet to play in front of their home crowd or get the fan support they need. Three road games and two loses to good teams and watch as only 15,000k show up for the homecoming game this weekend. Just when morale is down, they will be let down with empty seats. I know most of you will be there, but what about all your friends? This team's goal is to win the MACC. So far we are 1-0 in that aspect. Wouldn't it be nice to see the fans do their part and fill up the Doyt and show this team we are still behind them instead of bashing the coaches and players?

I will gladly tell Gregg Brandon that he needs to stay at a Holiday Inn Express next time.Schadenfreude wrote:Would everyone here be willing to say everything they post here to Gregg Brandon's face? His wife's face? A player's parents?
But seriously, Brandon admitted to being outcoached so me pointing out that fact isn't a slam, it's a fact.
I plan on throwing on my #1 Jersey this Saturday, screaming till I can't speak, and then going out and celebrating a victory that night. Now, whether our team is ready for a underestimated team in Temple is completely dependent on Brandon. If we aren't able to bring Omar our at the half, that's a negative in my opinion.
The best evaluation of a coach is how he responds to a lost. I'm curious to see which Falcon team we see Saturday:
2-time Bowl Champions or Boise State Victims?
