I just posted something over there for them. If nothing else it'll piss them off and I'll get banned.

You caught any Coyotes games out there yet? You know the puck drops here in BG on Monday.

WOW! Didn't even see the thread you posted in at first glance (was wondering where the hell everyone was over there). Two observations:

(1) Classy, classy post on your part. From what you said I thought that you had made a snide post and I was about to come over here and give you a talkin' to!

(2) It sure doesn't take MAC fans long to turn on their team. I saw it first this year on Miami's board, then on ours and now on Toledo's. Wow.

Anyhoo, as far as the Coyotes go, I haven't gotten to any games yet (are they playing preseason games yet - only have time to focus on football and baseball right now, what with the grad school crap and all), but I do plan on getting to at least a couple of games. The UofA Icecats drop the puck here pretty soon, too, and I've got a pretty good in with the program here, so, FREE GAMES FOR BO!!!!!! Oh, and they sell beer at Icecats games... 8) :partyman: :vom:

Eh, it hurts them when someone with orange and brown is nice to them.

I'm pretty sure the "official" season kicks off the 3rd. I've caught a few Jackets games on FSN, and we actually look pretty strong this year.

As far as serving alcohol at hockey games...why wouldn't you? I think hockey and beer are meant to go together. Sharp objects, heavy hitting, hockey whor....groupies; what else do you need for a good party?

Toledo fans are thin-skinned, period. It will never change.

But I expect UT to screw things up, so tonights game was bound to happen. Some will say, "oh but they had their back-up QB playing" which is a typical UT excuse. However given the injury their starting QB has, that was the offensive package we were going to see if he played or not. You don't want that kind of QB knocked around with his bell already having been rung. In addition, they are going to have to keep him in the pocket more to prevent a further injury.

Either way, UT will have to adjust how they do things. They have to play at Ohio if I read the paper right. Their defense gave the UT fits in the past. And what about Ball State? BSU has their number historically, and in particular when they are in Muncie.

The season is long.

That said, we have as long a road to deal with. Road-trips to Miami and such are not going to be easy.

Well I disagree with that. Fresno has been a staple of the mid major teams for quite a bit. It's hard to give an edge to either team. FSU and BSU have both made huge mid major waves. Plus I would not not "gloat" about being blownout by anybody. The only thing that could make feel ok about what happened a week ago is 9 straight victories.

I know winning the MAC is an important thing, but lets face it, the MAC has been pretty bad OOC in 2004 and 2005. It is starting to worry me.

What you say is true, but a.) I was speaking relatively, and b.) given the fears expressed about the Miami and Toledo games this year, I think this loss for Toledo should really bring some of those people back down to earth. Also, I think that people have not fully taken into account that we played a hell of a program that was essentially backed up against a wall with 2 losses in Boise without one of our major offensive weapons in hand. I am not sure if it was that our team was dispassionate so much as it was Boise being fired up and having no choice but to play their hearts out. Similarly, especially with a team like Toledo that has a very one-dimensional offense, I don't think they were playing to their potential. Nothing in this conference is clear right now. While I think this is concerning for the confrerence, there have been a number of special circumstances surround many MAC OOC losses. No one in the national or local media is going to recognize that, but they are factors, but they are factors nonetheless.

BO,
You're right, this game does make me feel a lot better about the rest of this season. Toledo has just as many problems as we do.

However, I am concerned with the conference as a whole. Since September 2003 we really have not done anything. I am almost just as big of a MAC fan as I am a BG fan. I even rooted for Marshall and UCF in out of conference play. In 2004 the best team we beat OOC was Kentucky and in 2005 it is Pitt. Both of those teams suck.

It does not make me feel much better that we are adding a team like Temple to the mix. Not only are they horrible and dirty, but it is not even a good academic school. I do not understand why we feel the need to replace Marshall and UCF. 12 teams is plenty.

As much as it pleases me to see UT fans bitch like we do around here, it really concerns me that the MAC might be way below the WAC. Playing on the other side of the country in hostile environments is tough but it is no excuse to lay eggs.

As I've said in a couple of other threads, I am tired so I am not sure if I am making complete sense. Obviously I am not because I agree with every word you wrote and I am not getting that across.

I don't mean at all to belittle the effect of these OOC loses on the conference overall. I guess I was just trying to say that in terms of the MACC, which is all that really matters after an OOC performance this bad for the MAC in general, is wide open right now. Even after the loss to Fresno, Toledo fans on their board are saying that all that matters is going out and winning a MACC, and why shouldn't they? That is what I and some others were saying immediately after our loss to Boise. Get the title. That is what we are all really after.

I'm going to bed now...

I think you have it right there. Let's turn Boise and Fresno into home games for each of us and see what happens. Let THEM make the midweek plane flights and go to two pretty tough places to play.

We finally get an ooc game at home- heck we finally get home!

If we are going to continue to play Wisky and TOSU away, to start the season - well we live with the consequenses. One of them may be a win!
