First of all, I don't completely understand the move of Dozier to LB. I guess Lovett is really trying to push the idea of team defense and the use of speed. He may want smaller but really quick LB's that can run sideline to sideline. The only thing is that I looked at our roster and we have a good number of young linebackers that are good sized(6-1 220 range). So I don't know how long he is going to stick to that plan. I heard some good hype about Dozier when he came to BG and I hope he doesn't get lost in the position shuffle. Also, while looking at the numbers I think we have decent size on the D-Line. Of course we could use more, who couldn't, but most D-1 teams don't have a frount four averaging any more than 270. Lovett has coached in the south, and Defensive coordinators down there like to rely on the speed of their players rather than just beat on each other like we do up here. I wonder if maybe Lovett is just trying to install a different mentality in the defense. Maybe he wants to just have the d-line hold their men up and open it up for the linebackers to make most of the plays. Since our d-line isn't used to that style of play necessarily, it is taking a few games to break their old habits. I could be way off, but if you watch how teams that he coached play defense (i.e. Auburn) they really rely on their linebackers to make the big plays.

IIRC, one of the reasons Dozier retracted his verbal committment to Toledo in favor of BG was UT's desire to move him to LB. Apparently, he wanted to stay at safety.

I share hammb's sentiment that it's not a good sign for your defense when you're moving guys around from DB to LB. Having three true freshmen make the two deep in the secondary isn't really a good thing either.
