Hell of a punt return for Corey! I imagine somewhere in the stands there is a father who is both proud of his son and glad he wasn't able to talk him out of playing today...

Don't know about his dad, but his aunt and uncle were sitting next to me and they were pretty happy for him.Bleeding Orange wrote:I imagine somewhere in the stands there is a father who is both proud of his son and glad he wasn't able to talk him out of playing today...

Corey will be the next in a great line of all-stars. Everytime I look at our team at 3rd down all I got to say is: "look for Cory, he'll be open."
That, is an amazing compliment for a gamer. Cory seems to always be open on those third downs, a lot like Cole.
If anything, that's an amazing compliment to receive. Cole was looked at as a great talent here and a leader.

As I said, I was sitting next to his uncle. He was watching Cory every play. He said there were a couple of times where he was blocking and after the play you could see him favoring his shoulder. He also said that it was questionable as to whether he would play at all yesterday. The uncle thought about just staying home since they didn't think he would play. But they came anyway since they had the tickets.
Gotta get this off my chest. Given he is already injured, Why in God's name was Cory even back there fielding punts when we have a 56 point lead? Yes, great, he scored a TD, but why would yu take the chance of him reaggravating the shoulder injury in a meaningless blowout?
Along the same lines, did anybody else notice Turner was on the KO retrun team?
Yes, I want our best athletes out there, BUT THE BACKUP QB??? Especaily after we already have lost our #1 RB on the same unit. Why would you take such a risk with your backup QB? Do we even have a third string QB?

I'm sure Corey didn't mind being out there. For all we know, coach might have asked him if he wanted to do PR's and he could have said yes.Warthog wrote:Gotta get this off my chest. As for Turner, I think that's good sportsmanship. If we are beating them badly enough to let our QB's punt return, that to me shows we aren't trying to run up the score
"To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the project manager, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be."
It was kickoff return, not punt. And Turner is probably one of the fastest, most athletic guys on the team. How would that be showing sportsmanship?Metz wrote:As for Turner, I think that's good sportsmanship. Ok, I just got home and was checking this out.
First off, Corey was an all-state punt returner in high school. He averaged 24 yards a return. Took 4 returns back for touchdowns his senior year. Last year as a red shirt he practiced PRs all season. My assumption is he is the 2nd string Punt Returner and will inherit this next season.
In the 3rd quarter on an Omar run, Corey threw a block and then ran to the sidelines with the dead arm thing I have seen every week since wisconsin. I thought, oh great here we go again. He did not play receiver any more during the game and Yes I was surprized he was out for punt returns. I almost couldn't watch it. Talking to him after the game he said he just got a stinger in the arm and he didn't pop the shoulder again. This is good he actually made it thru a game without totally reinjuring the shoulder.
As for why he is out there? I don't know, but if the coach asked Corey to do anything Corey would go do it. Even if he had a broken leg, he would get up and take whatever opportunity is being offered. He wants to play and perform in the worst way. Believe me this team wants it and I think they are going to come out and take the Mac in grand fashion.
The punt return was great and I also noticed that Chuck was pretty excited about it when Corey got back to the sidelines. It's great to see a senior get excited for a young guy having success.
My brother and his family had a great time. The crowd was awesome. I hope his shoulder can continue to heal and he can help take some pressure of Steve and Chuck. He can offer another option that defenses will have to respect and that will only enhances Steve and Chucks opportunities. And we know what they can do!
